MY CHRISTMAS GIFT

The snow swirled around me as I stepped in from the cold,
I looked around the coffee shop,
Decorated in red, and green, and gold.
I went to stand in line as I looked around the place.
My heart skipped a beat when I laid eyes on your beautiful face.

You were sitting in a corner,
With a latte and a book.
I sacrificed my place in line so I could get a closer look.
I brushed past a few people, trying to get a closer view.
I held my breath and I felt faint as I confirmed it was really you.

It has been 8 years since we last saw each other.
8 years since our heartbreaking goodbye.
I needed to leave Smallville, but you did not understand why.
I tried to explain to you that I needed a fresh new start.
And then you gave me a look that still continues to break my heart.

I told you that I would always love you,
And you said you loved me too.
It has been about 8 years since that day,
And I have never heard from you.

Pushing away all the painful memories,
I brought myself to where you sat.
I cleared my throat and you looked up,
Your expression was completely flat.

I could not tell what you were feeling,
As you stared at me once more.
I began to feel nervous
And I shifted my gaze towards the floor.

As I glanced back up,
I saw your expression change.
From just one look into your teary eyes,
I was confident that you felt the same.

With a moment's hesitation,
I pulled myself together
And leaned in for a gentle kiss.
As you kissed me back, I closed my eyes,
Savoring all of this.

As we broke away,
I looked at you once more.
With a smile, you took my hand,
And you led me towards the door.

We stepped out together,
The two of us into the snow.
I'm just so happy that I found you;
Happier than I think you know.

I'm so happy that I'm with you;
That we have finally closed our rift.
I look up toward the stars and I silently thank God.
I thank Him for you.
You are my perfect Christmas gift.
