Fear of Light

The eyelids of five-year old Igorth had started to droop. The young vulture shook his head as he was almost taken to dreamland. No, he can't sleep yet. It was only two o'clock. He must stay up all night, or else whatever had taken his father's soul would also take his.

Igorth loved the sounds of the night. The sound of the werewolves that howled at the moon, the hoots of the owls, the soft flaps the wings of vampires made when they flew to their next meal. The young realized that maybe the children of the night kept the soul-stealer away during the night. Maybe his father's soul was stolen the moment the sun came up? He remembered how his mother was shocked about his father's death since he still snored during the night.

Light must be the enemy. It must have had attracted the soul-stealer, and his father was the poor victim. The reason why he stayed awake would be the fact that he was scared that he would not wake up before it was too late. Just like many poor people that were found dead during the morning, despite the fact they were fine the night before.

But, what if someone was buried when they were just in a deep sleep? He remembered how his father looked as if he was fast asleep, despite the fact he didn't snore. No, he should never sleep ever again. He wouldn't want to wake up to find out he was buried alive.

"Igorth, are you awake?" the voice of one of Igorth's brothers whispered as he entered his bedroom. The room was lit up as the man held a candle in his hand. In his other hand was a book.
"Yes, I am. What is it?"
"Before I tell you, please swear that you won't tell Mother about this. She hates necromancy, and not one of us would like her to find out that we all practise it behind her back."
"Okay, I promise."
"Okay Igorth, this book is about immortality. Before Father had passed away, he told me that he had wanted to give you this. So, I decided that now's the appropiate time to do so. Just, please don't let Mother know, okay?"

"Okay, but can you please read one chapter of it?"
"Will do."

As his brother read the chapter to him, Igorth realized his phobia of death would be cured if he became a necromancer. Besides, doesn't he love the dark and eerie a lot more than the light and cheerful?
