Goosewing's 25th Wedding Anniversary

A broad smile crept onto Dr. Von Goosewing's face as his hot-air balloon descended towards his small cottage. The doctor tried his best to hide his grin when the hot-air balloon touched terra firma. The gander tucked the bouquet of flowers (a mix of lilies and white roses) and a heart-shaped box of chocolates under his arm. In his hand was a small box. In the box was a diamond-studded silver necklace.

Dr. Von Goosewing hummed to himself as he tried to leap out of the hot-air balloon's basket with gracefulness. This day was his big day as it's his and his beloved wife Ermintrude's twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. They might not see each other as much as he would have liked, but he is certain their love was just as strong as the day they had first met. Although his friend Klara warned him that Ermintrude doesn't like the idea of him hunting dangerous vampires and other beasts, Goosewing paid no heed to his friend's warnings. He had never lied to his wife about how dangerous his job is, correct?

Dr. Von Goosewing knocked on the door, yet there was no reply.
"Ermie, are you here?" Dr. Von Goosewing honked in German. No answer. The doctor sighed as he searched in his jacket's pocket for his key. The elderly gander found the key and unlocked the door. The vampire hunter frowned as he entered the cottage. It was quiet. Too quiet. Neither the radio or television were on. After Goosewing had placed his items onto the coffee table, he noticed that the furniture were covered with dust.

"Strange, Ermie hates it when anything gets dirty." The elderly doctor pondered out loud in German. He was about to check the rest of the cottage when he noticed an envelope underneath the coffee table. As if it was as brittle as china, Goosewing picked the envelope up and removed the letter that had occupied it. The eldery doctor blinked when he recognized the handwriting as his wife's. All the words were in German. He reread the letter again, just in case he somehow didn't understand his own Mother Tongue. No, he did understand.

His wife had left him because she couldn't handle his life as a vampire hunter. She didn't realize how intense his job really was until it was too late. She hated how she worried every single night whether or not that night would be his last. She wrote that she knew that it was the coward's way out, but she did feel that it wasn't fair on either of them. She knew that it would selfish of her to force him to quit his duty, so she decided that they should have a divorce. She also explained that she hoped that he'll find someone that would be a better wife than herself.

Dr. Von Goosewing slumped into the chair behind him. His lower beak trembled as tears streamed down his cheeks. The gander threw the letter down on the floor and smothered his face with his hands as he sobbed in hysterics. Why did Duckula curse him so?

When there were no more tears to shed, Dr. Von Goosewing's heartbroken face transformed into one hellbent on revenge. The gander dug into his vest and pulled out his trusty musket. He stared at his reflection as he made a promise he hoped he shall keep.

"Tonight Duckula, you shall breathe your last breath, you foul fiend. Zhen I shall heff mein dear Ermintrude back!"

The End
