When Scorpius was five years old he asked his father for a ferret. Several things immediately followed; his father froze, his mother dropped the plate she had been washing in the sink, and his Uncle Ron and Uncle Harry had burst out laughing. Scorpius supposed that his mother had also been laughing by the way her shoulders had been shaking, all while his father glared at her. "It's not funny Hermione." His father had growled.
His Uncle Ron who had looked as though he may wet himself at any moment had barely been able to get a sentence out between his laughs "Yeah, i- it kind of is mate."
After a moment his mother had turned around from the sink, her lips had still been fighting a smile, to look his father in the eyes, one of which was noticeably twitching "No, no need to be so twitchy about it Draco."
His Uncles burst into a whole new round of laughter, and Scorpius could not understand why. After all, they had been the ones to tell him what great pets they make, and to make sure to ask his father and not his mother because his father loved ferrets, to the extent that he was practically one. So Scorpius being the four year old he was had spoke up "But Uncle Ron and Uncle Harry said you love ferrets."
Suddenly all the laughter had stoped: Uncle Ron and Uncle Harry shared a look, his father drew his wand and his uncles had run for the door his father having followed, his wand in hand, yelling out bad words his mother would wash his mouth out with soap for saying.
Turning to his mother Scorpius asks once again "Can I have a ferret, dad didn't say no."
His mother had smiled at him before picking him up "I don't think so, you're daddy had a bad experience with ferrets."
"Can I have a rat?"
Hermione froze"No, absolutely not."
"What about a puppy?"
