Bad News
Jan Templar was
standing in the command centre of the brand new planetary defence
platform (PDP). After proving himself defending the planet Vekta from
the Helghast invasion 6 months ago, he had quickly risen in the ranks
and had managed to achieve the rank of general. He had been put in
command of the new PDP; it was an experimental platform that took 5
years to build by over 500,000 workers. Its codename was Black Sky
and as well as being used for defence purposes it could also be used
as an attacking structure and the ISA planned to use it as the
frontline platform for any upcoming attacks the ISA may decide to
carry out. Templar was contemplating how a machine of this size and
power could possibly exist when he was interrupted by a voice
"Sir,
you have a call from General Mace" said the sergeant, although very
weakly.
"Thank you sergeant, I'll take the call in my office"
Jan replied in a deliberately harsh voice to show he was annoyed with
the man's cowardness, if he was afraid to talk to Jan then how
would he handle himself in a battle?
Jan walked over to his office
and went inside, locking the door behind him. His office was larger
than it had seemed when he had first entered it earlier that day, it
had seemed small and unwelcoming but it now felt large and homey.
"Maybe I'm just still getting used to this place" he
muttered to himself.
His office didn't have alot in it right
now, it had a desk with a foldaway screen which needed his DNA to be
accessed as it linked straight to command HQ, there was a couch with
a TV for entertainment (not that he would use it much), there were
other things like a cooker, a fried and some other necessities but
the office was majoritaly empty. Jan walked over to his desk and sat
down. He then placed his hand on the pad that would read his DNA and
confirm it was him, then he had to type in a unique code that only
Generals know. Once he had done that a screen automatically folded
out of the middle of his desk and an image of General Mace appeared
on the screen.
"How are you Jan?" asked General Mace
"I'm
fine thank you Owen, however I am curious as to what is so important
that you must contact me on this channel?"
General mace waited
for a moment and then replied "I'm afraid its bad news Jan".
He said in a serious tone.
"What's happened?" Jan replied
beginning to get a bit anxious.
"We don't know how or why
it's happened but a rift has appeared and it appears to lead to
Vekta"
"what's wrong with that?" Jan butted in.
"let
me finish!" Mace replied harshly, "as I was saying, the rift
leads to Vekta but not the Vekta as we know it, it appears to lead to
Vekta during the Helghast invasion"
"But that ended 6 months
ago, how is that possible?" Replied Jan, shocked.
"We don't
know but unfortunately we need you and your old team to go through
the rift and find a way of closing it"
"what makes you think
we can?" Replied Jan getting a bit annoyed.
"You are the best
experts on the invasion and the best soldiers we have, you did more
for us than anyone else, can you do one more thing for us?"
Jan
contemplated what he was going to say for the next few minutes until
eventually he decided.
"Fine. Ill do it but first we will have
to find Luger and Hakah and I have no idea where they are."
"I
do." Mace replied, "They went through the rift last night before
you. We were planning on sending you and Rico through together, you
can meet up with Luger and Hakah at a predetermined location."
"Ok
then, I doesn't like the idea of just two of us going through but I
suppose we will have to make do."Replied Jan "when do we
leave?"
"Tonight, under the cover of darkness" Mace answered
"report to the armoury by 22:00 hours"
"Ill be there
General"
"Oh and Jan, Good luck"
