Writer's Note: The events of this story will be based on the events of Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
It was a beautiful morning as the ferry cruised across the sea. The water was calm, breeze was gentle, and the sun shone brightly in the clear blue sky. Leaning on the bow of the ship was a young boy staring at the horizon with silent anticipation. The boy was 11-years-old, had an overbite with a prominent chipped front tooth and an orange shirt. But his most notable feature was his white hair. As the boy continued to watch out at the open sea, something caught his attention on the starboard-bow of the ship. Swimming alongside the ship were large manta ray like creatures. They had wide wing-like fins, a pair of long antennae on their heads, and tails that somewhat resemble streamers. The top of their bodies were dark blue with black ring-like patterns on their wings and backs, while their undersides were grey with gills, small mouths, and a pair of beady eyes. The white-haired boy marveled that these amazing creatures. Some of them burst out from beneath the water and flew so high into the air that it was like they were flying. The gasps and awes of the other passengers turned his attention to the port-bow, where he sees even more of the large rays swimming and gliding on the left side of the ship.
"Beautiful, aren't they?" An old and gruff voice asked, causing the boy to turn his head back to meet its owner. It was the ship's captain, who greeted the boy with a friendly smile as he joined him on the bow. Resting on his shoulder was a small parrot-like creature with bright blue wings, yellow chest and feet, a green stomach, and a pink beak. It had a black head and resembled an eighth note with a ruff of white feathers around its neck, and a black tail that resembled a metronome. The boy nodded as they watched the creatures continue swim alongside the ferry. "You're lucky you picked this time of the year to come out here. This your first time seeing a Mantine?"
"Yeah, it is," The young boy replied, watching as the school started moving away from the ship and turn to another direction. "I've seen them in books and documentaries, but never this close and in person."
The old captain nodded. "Then you'll love Johto, my boy. They got a lot more beautiful and majestic pokemon there."
"Yeah, I know. My sisters have sent me pictures and videos while on their pokemon journeys. I can't wait to finally start mine." The boy shook with excitement.
"Oh? So, you want to be a pokemon trainer too, eh?"
"Aw yeah! I'm going to be an awesome trainer, just like them!" The white-haired youth proclaimed proudly.
The captain gave a hardy laugh. "Well, you definitely got the spirit, boy. But, you know, it takes more than just spirit to be a great trainer. It's about strategy, hard-work, determination, and most of all, having a close bond and friendship with your pokemon. Isn't that right old' friend?"
"Chatot! Friendship! Pokemon! Great Trainer! Great Trainer!" The small bird on the old man's shoulder squawked loudly, seeming to agree with the captain's advice. This prompted the old man and young boy to laugh in amusement.
"I'll remember that, Captain. I promise." The boy replied.
"Alright," The captain nodded with a smile. He could see a fire in the boy that reminded him of himself when he was that age and first started his journey as a pokemon trainer. "Well we should be landing in Johto in a few hours from now. If you keep an eye on the horizon, you should be able to spot it soon. I best be heading back to my quarters. Catch you later, kid."
"See you later, Captain!" The boy replied back.
"Later! Later!" The small bird pokemon called out as the captain started walking away, leaving the young boy alone at the bow once more.
"Oh, hello! Sorry, I didn't notice you there. I was very distracted as you have seen." The white-haired boy said as he turned to face the reader(s). "I'm Lincoln Loud, though you probably alright knew that. And WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF POKEMON! (I always wanted to say that) Don't worry, I won't put you through the whole professor speech and "Are you a guy or a girl". Anyways, I'm on my way to join the rest of my family in the Johto region. See, we are from the town of Royal Woods located in another far-away region. I was supposed to go with them, but I got sick with a rare illness and was forced to stay behind. The doctor's said that it was a mutated form of Pokerus that infects humans. I was stuck in a research hospital for nearly a whole year while they performed a bunch tests on me, it really sucked. My family originally wanted to stay, but I convinced them to go without me. We were all looking forward to starting our pokemon journey in a new region, and it wouldn't have been fair for my sisters to miss out just because of me. They did send me pictures and videos of their time in Johto, and while I'm happy for them, it was torture being stuck here and not being there with them. Luckily, my Pop-Pop was there to keep me from getting too lonely stir crazy, and my parents and sisters check in pretty regularly. Eventually, after ten months, the doctor's deemed me cured and safe to finally leave the hospital and join the rest of my family. I'm can't wait to see them all again and start on my journey as a pokemon trainer!"
"Ladies and gentlemen, if you look to the front of the ship, you will see the region of Johto coming into view. We will be arriving at New Bark Town in two hours."
The voice from the speakers shook Lincoln back to the present. He looked over the bow of the ship, over the horizon, and could see land starting to form in his field of vision. Lincoln's eyes widen with excitement and a big smile formed on his face. Finally, after an entire year of waited, his pokemon adventure is about to unfold.
