Sirius is chewing on a lithe green stem; the bitter taste saturating his taste buds. He doesn't really mind. He's had this bad habit going since he was little. Chewing on flowers has always been a sure way to rid himself of anxiety and stress.
Or maybe it was because the bitter taste gave him an excuse to slam down a Firewhiskey, he wasn't quite sure.
He been gnawing on these things since he was little. His mum used to smack him with a rolled-up newspaper when she caught him chewing on the blossoms Regulus had picked for her.
(He laughs roughly when he recalls this.)
In first year during Herbology, he has an itch to reach for the honking buttercups and sink his teeth into the stems, just to shut them up, shut up the rumors and the whispers about a Black being in Gryffindor. He confesses this to James a few years later and perhaps he sees something glint in Sirius' eyes, because he doesn't take the mickey out like Sirius thought he would. Sirius appreciates it.
Remus does a lot of research on his best friend's affection for stems ("Rhizomes", he reminds Sirius, talking like Professor Sprout. "Rhizomes, not stems, Sirius.") but he surprisingly comes up with nothing.
It must just be the quirkiness that is Sirius Black.
AN: There was a big meme going around on LiveJournal- you posted the meme in your journal and the first five people to comment got a drabble written about the character/fandom/pairing of their choice. Well, the-original-hufflepuff (henceforth known as Aimee) wanted a Sirius oneshot with the prompt being 'daisies'. Here you go, Aimee! I hope you like it and it doesn't come out too pansy! (Ha-ha, the author's note is longer than the drabble! xD
DISCLAIMER: I don't own Sirius or the lovely daisies he's destroying. Eat brownies and review. Kthxbai.
