"No!" Cat screams. "I don't wanna!"
"Cat, you have to," Beck says calmly. "Bite down with your teeth again." Cat does as she's told and whimpers in pain after. Beck simply gives her the 'I told you so' look.
"It hurts, Jadey," she mumbles, wrapping her arms around her best friend.
"Then you need to see the dentist," the Jade deadpans. "He'll make it stop hurting."
"Uh uh," Cat objects when she lets go of the older girl. "Dentists make it hurt more!"
"Who told you that?" Beck asks curiously.
"My brother had to go to the dentist once, and he screamed the entire time."
"Well, this is different," Jade assures. She grabs Cat's hand and attempts to pull her towards the front door. But the little redhead remains defiant and stands her ground. "Cat," Jade warns. "Let's go." Cat just stomps insolently, though, and the raven haired girl looks to her boyfriend for needed assistance.
"Put me down, Beck!" Cat demands as Beck picks her up and begins to carry her out of the house.
When they arrive at the dentistry after a car ride filled with Cat's relentless complaints, Jade hops out quickly and looks at her best friend in the back seat. "Are you coming?"
Cat shakes her head, and Beck is already stepping forward to get her again. "Fine, I'll go," the redhead gives in hastily, not wanting to be carried into the building like a child. She purposely takes her time getting out of Jade's black Mercedes and makes sure to walk extra slow next to her friends.
Jade has to force Cat to sit down in a chair once they are in the small business while Beck goes to the front desk to sign in. Jade tries in vain to sooth Cat's nerves because she knows the redhead hates anything to do with doctors – thanks to her crazy brother. The redhead refuses to read any of the magazines; instead, she just sits with a pout on her little face.
When her name is called a few minutes later, Cat impulsively grabs Jade's hand and squeezes it tightly. Beck rubs her leg and gives her a reassuring smile. "Go on, Cat. It'll be okay." The small girl looks like she's going to cry and Jade is torn between embarrassment and sympathy. The dental assistant at the door is just standing there waiting for the sixteen-year-old to come in.
"I'll be right here when you come back," Jade whispers in her friend's ear. "Nothing bad is going to happen to you."
"Y-you promise?" Cat looks at Jade with big, tear-filled eyes. The pale girl nods with a smile and nudges her to stand up and go. Reluctantly, Cat obeys and follows the lady out of the door. Jade sits back and sighs with relief, holding onto her boyfriend's hand.
About twenty minutes later, the redhead reappears pinching her own cheeks in both confusion and amusement. "Jadey, I can't feel my cheeks," she informs with a bit of worry in her voice. Jade just chuckles and motions for her to come over.
"Well, how was it?"
"It was okay," Cat states with a shy smile. "And look! I got something from the treasure chest!" She shows off a cheap, little toy and beams wildly. Beck and Jade both hug their little friend and congratulate her for her bravery.
