A/N: This was just a little something that was written for the Last Man Standing Competition. The prompt for round two was canon/could be canon, and Sirius/Marlene was my could be canon choice. Enjoy! Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter. JK Rowling does.
Marlene was sitting on the roof at James Potter's house on Christmas Eve, admiring the stars. The Potter's had just finished their annual Christmas party, though she hadn't wanted to go to sleep yet.
She heard footsteps coming up from behind her, and saw Sirius standing behind her when she turned around. He was giving her a crooked smile, and she grinned back.
"I see you have the same idea I did," he said, sitting close to her.
"I suppose I did," Marlene said, resting her head on his shoulder. He wrapped his arms around her and her heart danced. Marlene had known for awhile that Sirius liked her, though it had taken her longer to work her feelings out for him. He had a reputation with the girls, but he started maturing more during the start of their sixth year. She started noticing him as more than a friend, though she thought that was a bit weird since they had been best friends since childhood.
"Sickle for your thoughts?" Sirius asked, winking at her.
"I was just thinking that the party was nice earlier…you're a good dancer. I especially liked slow dancing with you," she added bravely.
His eyebrows flew up in surprise. "Did you now?" he asked curiously.
Marlene giggled and nodded as he grew silent for a couple of moments.
"I liked slow dancing with you too, Mckinnon," Sirius whispered softly.
"Yeah?" She tilted her head sideways to look at him.
Sirius gave her a boyish smile, and she couldn't help but notice that he was closer to her than before. "Yeah," he whispered before leaning in to kiss her on the lips. Her heart sped up when he kissed her, and she returned it deeply.
They kept breaking apart only to kiss each other again, so she finally decided to be the responsible one there. "Will you go out with me?" Marlene asked him, knowing that this would take him by surprise.
"You-you can't ask me out! I was going to ask you-" Marlene interrupted him by kissing him again.
Sirius looked dazed when he slowly opened his eyes again. "Yes," he said softly with a smile. "Yes, I'll go out with you. But I'm taking you out. I'm paying for you. I'm still going to be the guy here," he teased.
Marlene chuckled as they held hands again. "That's fine by me. Merry Christmas," she added with a twinkle in her eyes.
Sirius laid down and pulled her close to him so they could watch the stars again. "Merry Christmas," he answered with a smile.
