"Oh, Jeremy. . ."
Alex Russo stared at the large screen blankly. She was watching a corny love movie with her date, Hal. It wasn't her choice, the boy always chose the movie anyway. She found more interest looking down at her shoes counting the metal rings.
Hal put his hand on top of hers. His hand was nice and warm. Alex almost smiled, and tried to use her left, and non dominant, hand to reach into her pocket to get out a piece of gum.
What are you thinking, Alex? She asked herself. He probably wants to kiss me. . .
Alex turned around to face him. He was already facing her. They both leaned forward.
I can get this right, thought Alex, who's brother Justin had messed up his first kiss multiple times.
Their lips were about to touch when the boy leaned back. "I'm sorry," he said, "there's something I have to tell you. . . before. . ."
Alex looked at him with question, "What's wrong?"
"I'm a. . ." the boy started, Alex leaning in closer.
"w. . ."
Whale? Weightlifter? WOMAN?
"wiz. . ."
Oh! Alex thought.
"Stop," she said,
leaning towards him, "It's fine. If you're about to say wizard.
. ."
"I know you don't believe me," Hal said, sounding
like he might cry, "but. . ."
"I'm one too," said Alex.
Hal smiled. "Well. . ."
He leaned forward and kissed Alex. But then he stood up.
"Hey!"
"Watch out!"
Angry cries came from the people sitting behind them.
"I have to go," he said, "I can't do this. I'm sorry."
"What?" cried Alex, "What do you mean?"
"I wanted to date a. . . a. . . re. . ."
He ran out of the theater.
Regular, thought Alex. He wanted to date a regular girl.
