FairyTale
Chapter One - Prologue
As Byakuya watched his wife sleep he wondered when life had become so difficult for him. There were days when he woke up, felt the burning warmth of his partner breathing next to him in bed, and just couldn't see why he had to be tortured. Soul Society was a bustling city full of vibrancy and hope and yet in his huge home, he couldn't feel more alone. No one else could sympathise or know what it was like to ignore all he had ever wanted. Desires were a ghostly figure of faith in his world. So out of reach and yet so close he could reach out and feel the eerie tendrils of what couldn't possibly be attainable.
Hisana knew that, her sister knew that and now he was certain of it. The Kuchiki elders told him how strenuous this would all be for him but he waved off their concerns and their many battles to keep him from joining with his wife in holy matrimony. And now as she lay of her deathbed, pale and lacking any anticipation of their future together, he finally noticed how wrong things had gone. How many warnings had there been? Had he looked straight through?
Rukia had been right and now it was too late. He had been too proud and too arrogant of others and their feelings in praise of his own desires. Everything he'd ever wanted was gone. His life was an empty shell of what used to be and in the end, defeated, life still mocked him like the frivolous world of a fairy-tale. He was ruined.
A/N: I think I'm going to keep this as it is or maybe continue it one day.
