This is my first stab at Sirius/Marlene, so we'll see how it goes. Hahah (:
CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is appreciated (:
Guilty Pleasure.
Every night, without fail, she was there, with her friends, by the fire. And every night, without fail, Sirius watched her from the Marauders' favorite table across the room in the corner. (Perfect for plotting pranks, of course.) He didn't think she noticed he watched her because, unlike James and his pursuit of Lily Evans, he knew how to be subtle.
Watching her was the best part of his day, really. He got to see her in her element, at ease: laughing, chatting, grinning from ear to ear. It made him forget that she was one of the few girls he would never be able to get.
When they passed in the hallways, he always tried to subtly catch her eye, but she wouldn't so much as throw a glance his way. He assumed it had something to do with her being best friends with Evans, but she seemed to have formed her own opinions of him as well.
He had been secretly ecstatic when Slughorn had paired them together recently in Potions; she, clearly, felt differently, her blue eyes narrowing into slits as he slid into the unoccupied seat next to her.
As Slughorn moved on to seat the next students, she took the opportunity to whisper threateningly, teeth clenched, eyes still narrowed, "Black, if you try anything, I swear to Merlin, I will castrate you."
He grinned at her cheekily and gave her a flirty wink. She rolled her eyes in response, turning to complain to Evans across the aisle. Evans wasn't looking too pleased as she gestured exasperatedly to her own seatmate. James looked like Christmas had come early, grinning widely as he gave Sirius a thumbs up. Evans looked ready to murder him already.
Sirius chuckled, earning him another glare from the blonde-haired beauty sitting next to him.
"Padfoot," James said, shaking his arm lightly to get him out of his reverie.
"Hmm?" Sirius asked, averting his gaze from the fire and turning to look at James. He could still vaguely see her out of the corner out of his eye.
"I was just explaining phase one of the new prank we're planning to unleash on the Slytherins. Care to explain phase two?"
"Sure thing, mate," he said easily, plastering a smile on his face before he dove into his spiel, pretending that Marlene McKinnon was the last thing on his mind. No one knew she was his guilty pleasure, and he wanted it to stay that way.
Please don't forget to review! (:
