Written for the Weasley's Wizard Wheezes Competition (Extendable Ears)
Dean Thomas had just come back from a long day at work. He wanted to go home, find his girlfriend Pavarti and relax.
He didn't expect what he found instead.
When he didn't find Pavarti anywhere, he assumed she'd be in their shared bedroom. Walking up the stairs he heard voices -voices belonging to Pavarti and Lavendor Brown.
"You know pregnancy is a hard thing," Lavander's voice reasoned. Pregnancy? "Are you sure you want to keep it?"
So Pavarti was pregnant.
Before Dean got the chance to burst through the door with jubilation, Pavarti sighed and said, "But I'll keep it. It doesn't change anything if I don't. I'll still have gotten pregnant with Dean's best friend's kid."
Dean's mouth fell open.
"How did Seamus react when you told him?" Lavander asked. Dean pushed his ear against the door. So Pavarti was pregnant with Seamus' kid... His heart cracked. And to think he was thinking about proposing.
"He's ecstatic, but devastated that he's going to lose his best friend," Pavarti answered, her voice quivering. Sure as hell he'll lose me. "How do you think Dean's going to react?"
He couldn't take it anymore. Dean opened the door.
"You're about to find out," he growled. The two girls gasped. "Out!" he yelled. "Do not show me your face again. You have an hour to get all your stuff out of here."
Filled with pain, Dean disapparated.
.
"Dean, nice to see ya!" Seamus exclaimed as his best friend Apparated into his house.
"Well I'm not too happy to see you," Dean growled. Realisation was evident on Seamus' face.
"Man, I'm sorry. Pavarti and ah, we love each other, " Seamus began. " We-
Dean didn't let him finish. He punched him in the jaw. He didn't need his wand. He was furious enough to hurt him physically, but then he changed his mind. Dean took out his wand, muttered, "Crucio", and disapparated. Seamus' screams of pain will forever linger in his ear.
.
"I tried," Harry said to him through the bars of his Azkaban cell. "No less than 3 months sentence. I'm sorry man." Dean grunted. He was much, much happier in Azkaban. Dean wasn't ready to face Pavarti or Seamus. He stared at the cardboard. Dean Thomas- 3 months sentence for casting the Cruciatus.
"Thanks, Harry," Dean said, collapsing on the tiny uncomfortable bed.
"I'm really sorry about Pavarti," the head Auror said. "You don't deserve Azkaban. You were angry, cheated-on, and fooled."
"Thanks for reminding me," Dean mumbled and Harry left.
Dean thought about how Seamus and Pavarti would raise a family in the future. Will the Ministry take him back after Azkaban? Maybe he's better off playing football for a Premier League team, far away from the wizarding world. Maybe if he ignored the fact that he was a wizard, if he tried not to use magic as much as possible, if he tried not to visit Diagon Alley or Hogsmede or any other Wizarding place. It would be better if he forgot about everything he was thrown into when McGonagall came and told him if he was a wizard.
He was better off as a muggle.
No he thought.
Seamus and Pavarti will not make him forget all the mystery of Hogwarts, all the beauty of the wizardibg world. His decision will have to wait.
.
For the next 3 months, Dean contemplated on which world to live in. And when he finally got out of Azkaban, he knew his destination.
Dean had made his choice.
