The bright, spring sun rose proudly across the early afternoon sky, getting brighter the higher it went. Flowers seemed to grow an inch taller, for they were tired of the night. Stretching their petals, they elongated gracefully, and sat in their flower beds peacefully. The trees swayed in unison, as if singing a deep, ancient song to praise the coming of light. Children laughed and played amongst themselves, glad that they were able to come and play after a long, harsh winter. Mothers had worriedly chased after them, giving them first aid kits, water, and sun block.
The sun's rays stretched along the small town—except for one place.
With light comes shadows—dark, long figures of darkness hiding around corners of buildings and every small gap within the town. In one alleyway, there had been no difference between morning and night… An alley way with a dead end, where a hungry, blond, eleven-year-old boy was hiding…
Out of seemingly nowhere, two men walked in with crossed arms and intimidating smirks, searching for this boy.
The lonely, blond boy pressed against the wall behind a large trashcan, hoping to disappear into the shadows and remain unseen. Clasped tightly in his hands was a loaf of bread stolen from the two men. He had no one to take care of him, and had resorted to stealing food, hiding, then returning to his home; an abandoned apartment just outside of the small town. He sat there hiding, as silent as silent could be.
Unfortunately, bright, yellow hair isn't very easy for shadows to hide…
The men found him and kicked him down and kept kicking. It wasn't a fight or an attack with blows from the fist or the throwing around of weight; rather, an undignified scuffing of feet.
However, two grown men kicking a boy repeatedly whilst the boy was on the ground… It was damaging enough, that when the men left, the boy was left there and wished to die on the spot.
That little boy, crying and alone, wanted to leave the world and put an end to the tragedy that was his life.
Then, a little nine-year-old girl, running after a small soccer ball, saw the boy. Her bright blue eyes grew wide as she tossed the soccer ball aside and ran to him. She took out the first aid kit and water that her mother had given her, tucking her bright, yellow hair behind her ears. She forced him to drink some water, then laid him down on the ground, placing her bag under his head. The girl then wet her towel with the water and gently wiped his face, scrapes, and bruises with her towel, before placing the small towel on his forehead.
She took out some small, pink bandages and covered his little scrapes.
The little girl then ran away, and the boy blacked out.
When the boy woke up, he was trapped in a hospital, with only the thoughts of that cute, kind, little girl to keep him company.
