Chapter One
Cody leaned against the back of the rental SUV and waited. He found himself checking his phone, more interested in new Blackberry Apps, than in what used to be a fun game. The steady tap of high heels drew his attention back to the matter at hand.
His head never moved, but his eyes met the sound and scanned the woman making them. Her black heels criss-crossed in front of her in perfect time as each stride of her long legs caused the hem on her little grey dress to rise and fall.
"You ready?" He had master the art of cocky, playboy seduction.
"I'm sorry….?" The girl stopped right in front of Cody and took the small iPod earbuds from her ears. "Were you talking to me?"
It wasn't Becky, or Ashley or any of the other ringrats. Cody tried his best to wipe the egg off his face as another set of footsteps neared. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't really look up—"
"You mean you didn't look all the way up. Just because I didn't hear you, doesn't mean I didn't see you just fine…" The unfamiliar face smirked as Cody all but blushed in front of her.
He came off the back of the car and smirked as he approached her. Cody reached out a hand, "Hi, I'm—"
"Cody!" Sandy jogged in her stilettos to Cody's side and flung her arms over his shoulders. "All ready, sweets?"
"Well, Cody," the girl smiled and swept all of her thick, dark hair over one shoulder, completely ignoring the under-dressed and over-made up blonde. "It was nice meeting you." Before she had even finished her sentence, she had resumed her walk across the parking, and before Cody could say a word… she was all the way gone.
