Kensi was curled up on her couch, a barely touched plate of re-heated chicken and vegetables that her mother had brought over that morning sitting on her coffee table. She was staring at nothing in particular, even though Titanic was playing on one of the movie channels. For once, Kensi wasn't seeing any of her favourite movie. She was thinking about Jack. She had thought about Jack a lot lately, ever since Deeks had dropped her at home a day earlier. She had thought about him leaving her for another woman, with only a two sentence note and his engagement ring on his empty pillow to let her know he wasn't coming back ever again. She had thought about how he hadn't really tried to save her from the constant beatings inflicted on her by the Taliban group holding them hostage. Kensi had even begun to compare Jack and Deeks- though her shaggy haired best friend always came out on top, and always would.
Shouting outside her front door broke Kensi out of her thoughts. She hadn't heard her doorbell, so she got up slowly, grabbing her gun off the floor near her, and walked to the door. Looking through her curtain covered window, she felt her heart flutter in her chest. She smiled a little as she put the gun in a drawer and opened the door for the only person that would be stupid enough to try and visit despite her pleas for solitude.
"Finally Kens, I think your neighbours are about ready to call the police on me." Deeks stepped into the unnaturally clean living room, holding a bag in his hand. He noticed the plate of food on the coffee table and the still running movie on the TV. "I see you haven't had dinner yet. That's good, because I got us some of that Yum Yum Heart Attack food you love so much. And I got us some beers too."
Kensi closed her front door and returned to her spot on the couch. She barely registered Deeks sitting next to her.
"You don't have to do this," she told him quietly as she stared at the TV screen.
"It's only fair. After all, you did it for me when I was hurting." He handed over a spork and a carton of food. "Just eat a little of it," he encouraged.
Kensi put some food into her mouth, chewing slowly. Then she swallowed and had another bite. Soon, she was eating properly and drinking her beer. There was a smile on her face. It didn't take much longer for the both of them to finish the food and drinks, and then Kensi was cuddling up with Deeks. She fell asleep almost instantly, feeling safe and comfortable for the first time in months.
