Title: Guy Talk
Summary: A conversation between Peter and Hesam as they ride in their ambulance. Implied Peter/Emma Set somewhere post-"Shadowboxing" with spoilers for "Ink" and minor references to "Jump, Push, Fall," and "Hysterical Blindness"
Notes: I wanted to challenge myself by writing a fic featuring Hesam as a major character. Here's the result.
Peter slid into the passenger seat of the ambulance he was riding in with his partner, Hesam. He shut the door, then turned to his co-worker.
"I need to apologize," Peter began. "I've been taking my job pretty seriously, and I think it's been hurting the people in my life. It's been getting to me too."
"What, you mean the lawsuit? That could have happened to any of us, and besides, it got dropped," Hesam assured him, his eyes on the road as he navigated through the congested New York streets. He stopped at a light and turned to look Peter in the eye. "And, I owe you an apology too. I know you just want to save as many people as you can. I mean, you're probably the most dedicated guy I know. I shouldn't have said I was just your chauffeur. I know you're not a glory hound."
"Thanks, Hesam." Peter offered the other man his hand, and Hesam took it, their disagreement forgiven.
"So, got any plans this weekend?"
Petrelli shook his head. "Not really. I've been calling my brother, trying to see if he wants to have dinner or something, but I keep getting his voicemail."
"Life of a Senator."
"Yeah, I guess," Peter replied, but he didn't sound entirely convinced.
Hesam was quiet for a long moment, then spoke again. "So, you gonna tell me about her?"
"Who?"
"The blonde who works in the file room. I've seen you two together."
"We're just friends."
Hesam nodded. "Sure," he said sarcastically. "Look, you wanna know why I've stopped pestering you so much about going out? It's because I've seen the way you look at her. You care about her. Admit it."
Peter smiled as he thought of Emma. "She's…special," he acknowledged. "I can honestly say that I've never met anyone like her before." His smile became a grin. If only Hesam knew just how special Emma truly was.
Hesam grinned as well, nudging his partner in the ribs with his elbow. "There, you see? That wasn't so hard, was it? And she likes you too. I can tell."
"Is this based on your experience from all your nights at Houlihan's?" Peter joked.
"Hey, don't knock it till you've tried it, man." But Hesam laughed right along with him.
