They both knew that they and their relationship was an unusual thing between them, being that they were of different functions and barely even held the same social circles within their faction.
He loved Ratchet with his entire spark. They knew that. It was a plainly open and known fact to every other Cybertronian as well.
Some thought that his relationship with the medic was unfounded and one sided on his side. The more processor dimmed mechs were sometimes stupid enough to try and separate them.
Though for their lack of trying, they didn't understand that they provide a balance of sorts for each other.
The strength to keep each other going at even the worst of times. The times when one thought that they might lose the other for any reason that would come into their mind.
The twins and their fellow pranksters finally pushing Ratchet over the edge for doing something stupid both in and outside of any battle against the 'Cons.
Or the 'Cons finally managing to catch Jazz during a mission and terminating him before a rescue party can even reach him in time to prevent an unwanted loss among the Autobots.
Not that any loss for any reason was a wanted action to happen.
Sure they had the occasional fling with other Autobots, but it only happened when it was really needed if the other couldn't be found for any reason or was injured during a battle and recovering, but fully repaired in the medical wing.
It may have been unusual, but it worked for them completely. Just as long as they didn't end up creating a sparkling during one of their merges, it was all good in Ratchet's mind.
