Fan Fiction
Prologue
I have known Taylor Lautner for as long as I can remember. He was the older brother I had always wanted. He taught me how to read. He taught me how to ride a bike. He was my best friend and nothing, not even our age difference, could keep us apart. It didn't matter that he was two years older than me; we were going to be best friends forever. At least that's what I thought.
On my sixth birthday, Taylor came over to celebrate along with a couple of other friends. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was wearing a pink and white polka dot dress, and I got chocolate cake all over my face. My dress was covered in icing, but I didn't care. It was the best day ever.
They sang happy birthday, and I blew out the candles knowing exactly what I wanted. I grabbed Taylor by the arm.
"Best friends forever?" I asked.
"Forever," he promised. I remember the way he said it-like he meant it. I had to give it to him, he was a good actor.
At that age, boys had cooties, but Taylor was different. I grew up with him. Later in life, I learned that forever doesn't exist, and Taylor? Well, he lied.
When I turned thirteen, forever officially ended. Taylor was a freshman in high school, and I was in seventh grade. In Taylor's perspective, everyone younger than him was a little kid-except me of course.
My birthday is on April Fool's Day, and boy was I surprised. I woke up like any other day, got dressed, brushed my teeth, and ate breakfast, forgetting that it was my special day. Mom and Dad had already left for work, so I had to walk to the bus stop. When I opened the door, I practically tripped on the box-the box that changed my life. It was a purple and white striped box with a post it note on top that made it stand out, but in a good way.
As I bent down to pick it up, I realized something. Taylor's cars were gone, and the garage was closed. No matter what time or day it was, their car was always there. I picked it up, knowing that something wasn't right.
Happy Birthday, Aly. I'm sorry. It read.
What was he sorry about? What was going on? I had so many questions that I already knew the answers to-he made the audition. Taylor had always been into acting, and he was good at it too. But when he told me about the Shark Boy and Lava girl audition, I thought he was kidding. My Taylor? In a Disney movie? Yeah, right. But I was wrong.
Hands shaking, I opened the box. I felt like the girl that gets kidnapped in one of those scary movies. Inside, I saw the most beautiful silver locket. I took it out and examined it closely. "Forever" was printed on the outside, and it made me smile through my tears. He cared. I spent about twenty minutes of my time trying to figure out how to open the locket, and after what seemed like forever, I got it open. Inside, there was a picture of Taylor and I holding hands at my sixth birthday party, the day we made the promise. As I stood outside the door, I felt a single tear fall down my cheek, and I knew that he was gone. He chose Hollywood over me, and I will never forgive him for that.
