Good enough?
Summary: Clary confronts Jace on him going hunting without her. ONE SHOT
Clary woke up in the middle of the night and turned over to see Jace's side of the bed empty with a note of his pillow. "Shit, not again." She muttered to herself, knowing he went hunting for demons without her. She turned on her lamp and started sketching while she waited for Jace to return. An hour later, she heard the shower starting in Alec's room, which was right next to her and Jace's bedroom, so she turned the lamp off and waited patiently for Jace to return. She pretended to sleep and smirked as the door opened and Jace tried to locate the bed in the dark.
Clary heard a loud thud followed by a string of curse words before Jace climbed into bed with her. When he put an arm around her, she finally spoke. "You know, you could take me with you and save your foot from the furniture."
He sighed, "I thought you were asleep. I didn't want to wake you."
"That's bullshit and we both know it. Am I not a good enough Shadowhunter for you?"
"No, Clary, that's not it."
"Then what is it? I mean, I've defeated my father and my brother, who, may I add, kicked your ass before. If that doesn't qualify me to do a simple routine sweep, I don't know what does."
"Clary, you and I both know your more than capable, it's just, I love you so much and I couldn't live with myself if you got hurt when I could have clearly prevented you from hunting," He pulled her closer to him, "it kills me to see you in danger."
She rolled over and looked at him, "and how do you think I feel when I wake up and you aren't here? When you're out risking your life every night and I don't know if every time I kiss you good night if it'll be the last time."
He kissed her softly and wiped the tears from her eyes, "you can come on the next hunt if you want to, I promise."
She smiled, "I love you."
"I love you too, Clary. So much," he responded honestly. Clary kissed him rolled on top of him with a smirk. His hands tangled themselves in her hair, pulling it out of its ponytail. Her hands reached for his shirt and started pulling it up, not once breaking the kiss. Once Clary got his shirt off, she took off her own and started kissing his neck. Jace flipped them over so he would be on top and kissed her lips. "Marry me," he muttered between kisses.
Clary pulled away suddenly, "what?"
"Nothing, I didn't say anything." He said quickly with a deep blush. He went back to kissing her to distract her from what he said.
"No, Jace stop. Did you just ask me to marry you?"
He sighed and blushed again; "yeah…" he reached over to his nightstand drawer and pulled out a box. He opened the box to reveal a ring, "this isn't how I wanted to ask you… I was gonna take you to pandemonium or central park… my stupid mouth. I can't even propose right, like what's up with that?"
Clary laughed and kissed him to shut him up, "yes."
He looked at her with wonder in his eyes, "seriously?"
She giggled, "Yes, Jace, I'll marry you."
"SHE SAID YES! YES!" He yelled with a bright smile.
"Shhhhh! People are sleeping and I'm shirtless!"
"Oh, right," he whispered and handed her his t-shirt. "Now you aren't! It's only like 6 am. They should be getting up by now anyway."
Clary shook her head and threw on his shirt, gazing at the ring on her left ring finger. It was simple, just a single diamond with small gold jewels around it. She was surprised he actually bought a ring since it was a mundane tradition, but secretly happy he thought of it. She looked at him and kissed his cheek. "Let's go to sleep. We can tell them tomorrow. You just got back from a hunt, you need rest."
"Okay, goodnight," He said with a smile.
Clary kissed him one more time and curled up next to him in bed as she drifted off to sleep.
