Cedric never really understood what that thing was. Of course he knew it was for entertainment but how exciting could it be? It was long and cylindrical with an eyehole but once you looked inside, it was nothing but a world full of colors and a large abstract shape. He had gotten it as a Christmas present from Hermione a year ago but couldn't understand why this had her jumping up and down. Taking out of its box once more, Cedric looked at it from all angles and then inside once more. He had told Hermione that it was a wonderful gift, which was true because he's quite never seen anything like it, but he was stumped as to how this could be exciting.
Hermione has never seen anyone stare so intensely at such an object...scratch that, Ron and Mr. Weasley has. Peeking in from outside their bedroom door, she continued to watch Cedric stare at the object in his hand and then looked through it as she had showed him. Of course he wasn't turning the base at all which is why he was only staring at the same colors and the same image. It was important to her that she got him a muggle toy as a present. Toys that had been her favorites as a child and kept her entertained for hours on end as she tried to figure out how it worked and what mechanisms (of it had any) were used. Seeing him hit the thing softly against his hand, she tired to restrain a sigh but it escaped her and had him look up sheepishly at her.
As Hermione walked up to him, he tried to think of an explanation as to what he was doing. Feeling the bed sag to his left, he watched as she gently took the object from his hand and put it up to her own eye. He watched as her face started to glow as she continued to look in it. Cedric frowned as to why she was happy when all she could see was the same image he had seen previously. Putting it down as a muggle thing, he felt her nudge him. Turning to her, he could see the wide smile on her face as she handed it back to him. He had started to frown again but she stopped him as she smoothed out the lines on his forehead.
"Look at it again and this time turn this," she instructed pointing to the bottom half of the object.
She saw the puzzled look on his face before he shrugged his shoulders and did as he was told. The first reaction she saw was shocked, second was surprise, and lastly she could see a grin starting to form on his lips as he kept turning the base. If he could be happy with this, she wondered what he'd think about the Lego set he was getting this year.
