Tough Decisions Ahead 2

She had driven around for a couple of hours to calm down even though her emotions were still all over the place. The impending confrontation with Peter was something she was dreading but was long overdue. Peter was right they had to start talking. Silent treatment was no longer going to cut it. As for Will, well she couldn't even start thinking about that right now.

She signed heavily as she entered their apartment. Peters jacket was strewn across the sofa, already a sign that he was troubled. The apartment was so dark that at first she thought there was no one there but then in the dim light of the lamp she saw Peter lying down on the couch his brow furrowed, his eyes closed he looked anything but peaceful. She softly walked to the childrens bedroom only to find them empty too. She worriedly turned around ready to wake Peter to ask him where the children were. On any other night she wouldn't have worried so much but tonight was different. She had rejected their father publicly and she knew she had a lot of explaining to do.

Peter was already up – he had obviously heard her as he softly explained that the kids were with his mother and he had asked her to keep them over night. His eyes were still shut, his brow was still furrowed and he continued lying on the sofa in the dim light. Added to that was his tone – so silent and defeated. Even in his worst days in prison he had sounded strong and stood tall. Now he just seemed tired.

She took a good look at her husband and wondered how they had gotten here. He had aged in prison, his hair was grayer around his temples but he was still devastatingly handsome.

She shifted on her feet and called his name. He opened his eyes then and for the first time that evening they looked at each there. He got of the couch then, walked towards her and asked " Who was on the phone Alicia"?.
