So Close
by: AmethystAngel-18
It was dark that night. The moon and stars the only source of light. The leaves and flowers softly swaying with the billowing wind. All around him, everything was peaceful and quiet.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" a woman asked. She emerged from the trees and sat beside him, her chin resting upon her knees.
"Nothing. Just looking at the sky, that's all," he said quietly.
There was a faint sound surfacing from a distance. The music was so soft and beautiful, it didn't disturb the serenity of the place.
"I never got to dance with you. You were gone before I got the chance to tell you," she said.
He stood up slowly, and turned to face her. He extended his hand, asking her if she wanted to dance. She smiled and took his hand with hers and started to stand up. He placed both his hands on her waist and she had hers clasped around his neck.
"We look like we're a couple," she joked. He grinned at her. He saw something flash in her eyes. He never knew what emotion it was for it was fast for him to see.
"Hmm, how about we pretend that's true? Just for laughs?" he told her while smiling.
"Sure, why not?" she said while chuckling with him.
They both stared at each others eyes. She was seeing sky blue and he was seeing emerald green.
If people didn't know better, it would look like they were really a couple. They were in their own world. The music finally ended a while ago, but they kept on dancing. They were listening to music only the two of them heard.
They finally stopped dancing. She smiled faintly, hugged him and whispered quietly, "I gotta go."
She turned around, and walked away. He wanted to stop her from leaving, but his mouth stayed close. He stood there until she turned around, smiled at him once again and disappeared. She was gone.
When they danced, it felt like everything fell in place. He felt like his dreams were coming true. And they lived happily ever after was running through his thoughts that time.
He looked at his surroundings once again. The place didn't seem so perfect after she left. It was too quiet, the wind was too cold and the music was gone.
He was so close to reaching out to her, to tell her he loved her. She was so close and at the same time miles away.
