Fireside Love
This is just a simple oneshot of my love for the Kataang paring. If you don't like it, that's fine. I would love reviews to see what I can improve on. I know they probably didn't have marshmallows, but it's okay, just deal with it : )
Aang stared at the amber-colored fire in front of him. The colors shined brilliantly agains the dark night sky and the flames were crackling silently. He was surrounded by his friends Sokka, Toph, and Katara, and was leaning on Appa's tail, who was sleeping behind him. Momo was trying to chase the sparks that landed outside of the fire pit. Each of them held a stick with a white marshmallow at the end that was toasted more the longer they held it over the fire.
Sokka brought his stick to his mouth and shoved the marshmallow in quickly. Almost immediately, he spat it out, followed by laughter from the others.
"It's not funny!" he said angrily. "I could have burned my tongue off!"
"Well, it would have been your fault in the first place for stuffing your face with a hot marshmallow." Katara said, trying to conceal her giggles.
Sokka spat the remains of the gooey marshmallow on the grass and downed the small jug of water by the fire. "I'm going to bed." he sighed.
Toph carefully ate her marshmallow and said thickly, "Me too. I'm tired."
Yes! Aang thought to himself. It would just be him and Katara after the other two left. He had a secret love for the beautiful girl next to him with the sapphire-blue eyes. His spirits rose as Sokka and Toph left the fire and went to their tents.
When Katara wasn't looking, he snuck a quick peek at her. The light from the fire cast a soft glow on the girl, illuminating her dark features. Wow, Aang thought, she's even more beautiful than I could ever imagine.
Katara's voice interrupted his thoughts. "Aang? What are you staring at?"
The Airbender quickly looked away, blushing furiously. "Nothing, nothing." Thoughts raced through his mind. He so badly wanted to tell her how he felt, but he was afraid that it would ruin their friendship or she wouldn't feel the same way.
"KataraIhavesomethingtotellyou." he blurted out. What am I doing? he thought.
"Hmm?" Katara said. She was a bit preoccupied with putting a second marshmallow over the end of her stick without touching the hot wood.
"Katara…I need to say something. It's important." The monk shook violently with every word. This brought Katara's attention to him.
"Are you okay? Do you feel sick?" She placed a hand on his forehead and he tingled all over at the touch.
"No…I'm not sick." Aang took a deep breath. "Katara…you may think this is strange. Please don't think badly of me. But I…I love you."
Katara didn't say anything. Aang looked away and said, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have told you."
"Don't be sorry." a soft voice said.
A gentle hand reached under Aang's chin and lifted his head up. Just when he was about to ask why, he was silenced by the smooth touch of Katara's lips.
THE END!!
So, whaddaya think? Please review, and criticism is accepted. Thanx 3
