Gus was nervous as he sat next to Hazel. He could feel his hands sweating even though the air around them was cool. Funky Bones was once again crowded with kids who climbed, laughed and played. Gus took in a slow deep breath making Hazel turn to look at him.
"Hazel Grace," Gus spoke slowly he could feel his heart pounding in his ears and chest. Hazel raised an eyebrow. "I know this seems like a foolish thing to do, since we may not know what would happen in the next three hours, days, months or years. But-" he cleared his throat and locked his lips as he gently got onto his real knee and grabbed her hand. "But I know that no matter what happens-" Hazel's hand flew to her mouth as tears were filling her eyes. "I want to spend them with you. So what I'm trying to say is, Hazel Grace Lancaster. . ." He pulled a small black box from his pocket. "Will you marry me?"
