I met Elyssa's eyes in the mirror, taking in her expression, her scent, everything about her in that moment.

The red sundress she wore suited her perfectly, and I knew it was the right choice to give her my mother's dress.

As Elyssa tore her gaze away from mine, I took in the sight of us standing there together. We looked good, especially with my hand at her waist as a lover's should be.

She was half a head shorter than me, and her tanned skin matched mine well. She looked like a refined lady – I laughed mentally at that – while I looked ever the part of a villain with my dark blond hair, unshaven face, and red eyes.

Somehow we looked like a match… It was probably my feelings for her that made me perceive it that way, but as I stared at us, I hoped it was something that existed outside my mind as well.

I finished zipping up the dress and Elyssa turned around. Still thinking about the nonexistent possibility of an us, I stepped closer to her, setting my hands on her shoulders.

Elyssa was clearly uncomfortable, but that only made it more fun to tease her…

Under the circumstances, though, I stopped, dropping my hands to gently play with the hem of the red dress.
