A/N So...anyone else wondered what was going through Sephiroth's head during that infamous 'fire' scene? Don't flame for inaccuracy, this was done in like, half an hour. No time for researchy things.

Self Image was everything. This fact was the reason why Sephiroth was currently walking through a burning village, pretending not to know that his hair had caught fire.

One of the first rules of being the antagonist was to look good. And he knew he looked good. It was one of the reasons why his hair was so long. Most often than not it blew into his mouth while he was walking, so he usually had it tied back if he wasn't planning any slaughtering that day. He only let it down when he had to look impressive – which was, of course, whenever people saw him.

But now, walking through the fire? His exterior looked calm, the psychotic sort of calm that made people flee in terror, but right now he was fighting the urge to run and put out the flames creeping up his hair. He raised his sword in a threatening manner and twisted it to use it as a mirror. Making sure no one was watching, he began to sprint out of the flames and a fair distance away from Nibelheim.

He glanced down at his clothing as he fled and sighed in irritation. What had possessed him to dress in skin-tight leather? It wasn't exactly comfortable, especially running through a village on fire while wearing it.

Spotting one of those caves the mountains were so full of, Sephiroth ducked out of sight and began to rummage through his limited pocket space for some green materia. "Ice, ice," he hissed. Finding it, he quickly cast the spell and examined the damage. Nothing a few potions and elixirs wouldn't cure. He let out a quiet sigh of relief as he opened the bottles.

He wondered idly what Cloud was doing now.

Back to full strength, his hair returned to its usual sublime condition, Sephiroth stood up and picked up the Masamune, swinging it briefly through the air, just in case anyone was watching. He glanced around him and allowed himself a contented smile, then began to walk.

Oh yes. He looked good.
