Hope you enjoy.
Kirsten slid her body down the door until she was crouching. Sandy was on the other side mimicking his wife's movements. They both sat back to back with only an inch of wood between them. Kirsten placed both hands on the ground next to her and tried to control her breathing. Tears made small trails down her cheeks and continued to soak her white t-shirt. Sandy ran his hands through his long mane and sighed. He looked at his gold band on his left hand and sighed again, "Kirsten?"
The only reply that came was the sound of her muffled sobs on the other side of the door. He pictured her now helpless, vulnerable her head in her hands trying to stop the tears and it was all caused by him. "Please Kirsten."
"What?" she whispered softly but audible. He turned slightly and placed his left hand on the door and stared at his wedding ring reflecting the light above him.
"I'm sorry."
"I know. You said." Sandy flinched at the anger and bitterness in her voice.
"What can I do?"
"Nothing. There's nothing you can do… you had an affair Sandy." Her voice trailed off to a whisper as she broke into another fit of sobbing.
"I know and it was a mistake."
"Four months Sandy. You lied to me for four months." She never raised her voice but the sorrow screamed out to her husband, "And I don't think we can get past this."
"Don't do this Kirsten. You know we can… come on Kirsten open the door. Please." Sandy got to his feet. Kirsten turned the lock and waited for him to swing the door open. She leaned against the doorframe and watched her husband enter. He turned to look at her and his eyes welled at her expression. Her eyes were swollen and red and her blonde her draped her face messily. He pulled her toward him and she fell into his embrace. She wrapped her arms tightly around his waist. He ran his hands up her back until he cupped her head in his hands. She looked up and kissed him gently on the lips before resuming her previous position. In the safety of his arms, surrounded by her husband.
"It's over isn't it?" his low voice growled above her. She struggled to keep her legs from buckling beneath her as she nodded slowly her head resting on her husband's heart.
All i can say is... that was painful. Please review.
