Loss: by Stsgirlie
As always, everything belongs to Dick Wolf, not me. I'm just having fun!
After law school, I started out at the D.A.'s office working for Ben Stone. We both despised each other- I dislike him because he assumed I'd slept my way up the ladder, and he disliked me because I thought of questions he'd never even dream up. So, on that fateful day when Sally Bell quit the D.A.'s office to join the public defenders, Jack McCoy became my knight in shining armour, whisking me away from the dungeon I was languishing in.
Ben was much happier when Jack granted him Paul Robinette as his new assistant- Jack could never stand working with men, and Ben Stone couldn't stand not to. Jack was the exact opposite of Ben- kind, funny, and romantic. Whereas Ben had been envious of my creative questioning of witnesses, Jack carefully tended to this unique talent of mine. Jack also was well known as a charmer- even a seducer at times. In fact, the office grapevine had us sleeping together before we'd even shared our first kiss.
A week after I began as Jack's assistant, he'd kept me late and insisted on taking me out for dinner. After our first month working together, Jack and I had been enjoying some scotch on his office couch late one night. The more alcohol I imbibed, the more I let down my defences, and I became even more receptive to Jack's advances. Eventually, he leaned over and kissed me passionately, on the couch on which we spent most of our time together. When I didn't break away, he deepened the kiss and pulled me closer. By this time, we were the only ones left in the building, thank heavens.
After losing Jack, I met up with some other of his ex-assistants, like Sally Bell and Shelly Kates. I realised I wasn't special- he'd seduced us all in the same manner, and we'd all fallen for it. But the difference between me and them was that while we all lost our hearts, they got theirs back. I was the only one who lost her career as well.
