Pirates isn't mine. The title is taken from the wonderful Garth Brooks country song "The Thunder Rolled" but this is not a song fic.
And The Thunder Rolled
The sea sprang up to foam about the bow of the Dutchman that fateful morning. He smiled and leaned over the ship to greet the spray of the sea. There was nothing quite like it, and soon, soon he would meet his love again. In the end, everything came back to her. The sun was her smile, the wind her touch, and the sea…the sea was her very heart and soul.
Sighing, he pulled out the weathered locket she had given him all those years ago and flipped it open. The melody swirled the air around him and he smiled. She was his heart song, and soon he would return to her. These last ten years would be naught but a milestone to them. It ended tonight, and sundown.
He closed the locket and shook his head slightly as he strode to the helm. The day seemed to drag on forever, but now the horizon started to turn a pale pink. "Soon, so soon" he thought wistfully. The sky darkened to a deep red as the orb sank ever lower. "Red, the color of passion. Its perfect."
Finally, the orb disappeared and a flash of green light stole his breath away and all at once he realized he was back. Laughter erupted and he called for her "Calypso, CALYPSO!"
The silence seemed to loom ever louder then his calls. Frantically, he pulled out his telescope and sweeped the sky for anything to hint at nher coming. In all those ten years, he had never thought to doubt her. He firmly believed that she would be here waiting faithfully for him. Yet here he was, grinding the telescope into his eye and realizing that she wasn't coming.
The horizon was empty save for a few looming storm clouds. She wasn't there. This new found knowledge began to sink in and he came to realize the cold, hard truth of unrequited love. No matter it's depth. It's purity, or it's dedication; loving someone cannot make them love you.
She loved him not, and already the sky was darkening to him. The sea spray that once felt so magnificent felt like acid upon his skin. He lifted a hand to his cheek and wondered when he had started crying. A swift and bitter resentment had begun to take hold. He had jumped through every hoop, and had over come every obstacle she had thrown at him for her hand. The lightening flashed and the rain fell harshly but he did not waver. Instead he laughed, a cold, bitter bark of rage.
"From this day on Davy Jones is dead, and God save any forsaken being that falls in this creature's path."
And the thunder rolled…
