Callie knocked timidly on the bedroom door. She waited a few moments before slowly easing the door open to find her wife leaning against the far wall with a determined look on her tear streaked face.
"What do you want?" Arizona spat in a poisonous tone that still made Callie flinch after all this time. Temporarily speechless, Callie stood in the doorway as the familiar feeling of helplessness washed over her as she gazed at her wife's newly fitted prosthetic leg.
"I- I want to help. Let me help you, Arizona. Please." Callie pleaded. Her arms reached out of their own accord as Arizona took a slow step away from her.
"God damn it!" Arizona screamed, as she fumbled at her prosthetic leg, she loosened it and kicked it off. For a second, she just stood there, leaning hopelessly against the wall when she lost balance and fell to the ground in a heap, sobbing. Callie leapt forward and wrapped her arms around the love of her life. Never before had she seen Arizona this broken and vulnerable and it broke her heart.
"Don't touch me! I don't want your help, just leave me alone! Leave me alone." Arizona choked out as she tried to push away from Callie.
"Leave me alone, leave me alone, please," she sobbed and let she give in to her wife's embrace.
"I'm so sorry, I'm so, so sorry. I love you. Please, forgive me. I love you." Callie whispered into Arizona's ear as tears rolled silently down her cheeks.
Two hours passed before the two of them could bring themselves to move off of the floor. Callie helped Arizona gently onto the bed and lay down beside her, watching warily, for any sign of the anger in Arizona's eyes that she had grown so accustomed to over the past month and a half. Arizona looked into Callie's eyes and saw the wariness there and smiled, very timidly.
"I-" She cleared her throat nervously, "I'm sorry." A lone tear ran down her cheek and her voice broke slightly as she looked into Callie's eyes and saw the overwhelming love in them. She leaned forward uncertainly, trying to gauge the Latina's reaction. It wasn't until her lips touched Callie's that she realised she'd been holding her breath. She let out the pent up breath and kissed Callie again. Slowly at first, but then with greater intensity and passion as she felt her wife's lips curl into a smile.
Callie rolled on top of her wife and slid her hand down where Arizona's leg used to be. She heard the breath catch in her wife's throat and saw the look of apprehension in Arizona's eyes. The brunette smiled slightly and lightly kissed the end of the stump.
"You are beautiful."
