I stared out of the window once more. The minutes crawled by so slowly in here. Once the bell began its ringing, everybody shoved their textbooks into their backpacks and started to out from the classroom. I had been living here in Forks for two months, and while my teachers were perfectly fine, the general school was uninteresting. Except for one person…
Edward Cullen was the most sought-after bachelor in our school following Nick Otizle. Nick was a popular boy admired by both the "loud" girls, but both "quiet" and "loud" girls wanted Edward. In Forks High, though, most girls were of the "loud" variety.
Ever since I had noticed Edward on my third day at school, it was obvious to me that he would be the one. He just never had a girlfriend. Ever. Several people had their own theories on why, but I believed he didn't because of his strange family. I had asked Edward several times, but he rejected me as well as all of my friends.
Nick Otizle sauntered over to my table one day at lunch. Following were his foils, the even more abrasive Jack Finnigad and the depressing Laurence Walks. Jack was strong and looked over inflated whereas Larry always looked crumpled. They balanced Nick somewhere in the middle, quite an impressive feat.
"So, Bella, you finally find that special some-person?" Nick teased. After he had switched into my Chemistry class from his Biology class, Edward no longer sat next to me. Nick did, and when our teacher wasn't listening we would chat a lot. It seemed all Nick did was talk and gain information – he would show it off at even the slightest chance.
"It will begin to rain at precisely one-thirty-four this afternoon," he began, after seeing I was staring out the window. "It will be a moderate downpour of less intensity than yesterday but the shower following it at two-fifty-three will keep raining until Thursday." I smiled and nodded, not really caring but knowing he would be disappointed if I ignored him.
"I was going to ask Edward again this week," I replied to his earlier question. He was never satisfied with simple answers, however.
"When? How? For What?" he inquired. I frowned and did not give him any more information, so he left.
Edward got up from his lunch table and began to walk over to mine. My heart leapt straight from my chest to my head. My blood pounded. He was just walking out the door, though. It was next my table. "Maybe next time," I said under my breath.
My girl friends had been scoping the area. This week was my turn to have potential "suitors" matched for me. After school, they begin to talk about the three people who had been staring at me all lunch…
