Metphies curled his pale blonde hair around his fingers as he laid in bed, fighting the urge to sleep. He hadn't slept in days and his body was screaming for rest from working on the fifty sermons he'd written as a means to stay up longer. If he ever did fall asleep, he would be forced to hear their cries of anguish and pleas for mercy only for them to be drowned out by Its deafening cry and forced to relive those moments over and over again every night. Stop. Don't think about that. You'll only make it worse, he thought to himself as he tried to lessen the terror tightening around his chest. But that feeling...
The dreadful, suffocating feeling of knowing(or perhaps thinking) that It was still out there somewhere watching them, waiting to devour them just like It had all those years ago when It first arrived on their planet and destroyed everything. It had killed, burned, completely obliterated whatever It set Its eyes upon. And It had swiveled one of Its gorgeous golden maned heads in his direction and looked straight at him with Its burning eyes full of malice and sadistic pleasure that seemed to stare into the deepest, darkest parts of his soul before moving onto Its next victims.
Why It had spared him, he didn't know. It should've killed him then and there but It didn't. A part of his mind told him that it was God's grace that kept him alive which he wanted to believe. But a much more louder part of his conscious knew that It had plans for him. Evil, sinful plans that would never be pardoned.
Metphies glanced out the window and shuddered. Until the day came for It to return for whatever reason, It would forever be keeping a keen eye on them, making sure they didn't stay out of line. He could stay awake for a while longer.
Author's Note: I have this headcanon where Ghidorah didn't attempt to attack Metphies back when the Exif's planet was destroyed and instead spared him for when GODZILLA: Planet Eater happens so he can use him as his voice. I was inspired by the teaser for Planet Eater and wanted to do something focusing on the trauma of watching one's home planet be completely destroyed by a "living extinction event" like Ghidorah and really wanted to depict the terror the Exif experienced and their fear of knowing that Ghidorah's still out there somewhere.
Please don't forget to favorite and leave a review. I really appreciate it.
