What If

~*~

She's gone... She really is gone. I could tell, since the maids at the White Palace didn't clean the room she used while she was here. It's been... quiet without having her around. Everyone misses her, there's no doubt about it. Even Mallymkun, who partly disliked her from the start, can't hide it. I try not to think of her now and then, but I always look around for something she might have left behind. Somewhere I might have overlooked, there could be a piece of her that I can salvage. Evidence to show that she existed, that we had tea parties, that we defeated the Red Queen, that we talked and walked beside each other... She was so small when we first met her. Now she's change completely...

It would probably be selfish of me if I made her stay in Wonderland. When she said she had to go back to her world, I felt empty. Something inside of me wanted to reach for her, to hold on to her and never let her go... She vanished before my eyes and I was too late. Whenever she would visit us, I was thrilled! When she would leave, I would have these depressing bouts for some strange reason. Each time she came back, another person replaced the older version. Taller, more older, change aging her face... I thought the visits would never end, until now. How did she begin to change? How could I have not seen it? If there's still a hint of that little girl inside of her... could we relive the times we've been together? I wonder if she thinks about me. I wonder if she already forgotten about us. Sometimes, I wonder if she ever thought of what would happen if she stayed with us. With me...

If only we could turn the hands of time... If I could take her back, would she still be with me? The greatest regret that I have, was never telling her how I truly felt about her. If we could only turn back time, maybe she would know that I love her, but now she's gone... I guess we'll never know.

"Hatter, you're late!" Nivens the rabbit smiled, raising his tea cup from the saucer. He placed it back on the table. "What took you so long?"

"What took me so long?" grinned the madman as he sat on his usual chair. "The queen needed my help, so I stayed longer at the meeting."

"Ah, I see," the rabbit's face twitched. "That's understandable, but please do warn us ahead of time. Accountability is everything to me. Sorry, Hatter, but being with me for so long, you know how it is."

The hatter lightly chuckled. "Of course..."

He looked down at the table cloth, his eyes in a far off gaze. A familiar teapot on the ground caught his eyes, and he bent over to pick it up. Good thing he noticed it earlier, otherwise the porcelain pot would be smashed into shards if an accident occurred.

Wait...

The teapot was familiar! Could it be...? Can it be?! He reached for the lid of the teapot. Opening it, a doll sized dress was inside. The Hatter held the dress gingerly, closing his eyes as he felt the fabric against his hand.

Alice.

Hola! Hope you enjoyed the story. :) DON'T OWN A THING

I was so drawn into the scene at the ending where Hatter and Alice were talking so intensely. I thought it was going to have a more romantic edge, but it was still platonic and they sounded like they were just friends. But! What if Hatter was SUPPRESSING his TRUE feelings for Alice, and she didn't knew that he had feelings for her and he didn't tell? … BWAAAA *cries* So yeah. :) The song "What If" by Kate Winslet just automatically BANGED right into my mind. Tried to make this a songfic, but then that would mean I had to change the words… Which was scary. *looks up* Don't do this at home. Yeah, don't try it. Go over to a friend's house. 8) Just kidding. So yeah, this was based off of "What If", GUY version for the poor Hatter's situation. :D

Hope you liked it! Thanks for reading! ^^
