"Bite me!"
More dangerous words had never been spoken.
As Kagome ran hard and fast through the dense underbrush, she realized just how dangerous those words really were.
How could she have been so stupid? How could she have not realized the trouble those words could cause?
Kouga had taken those words literally, as the final acceptance of his proposal to mate.
Her long, toned legs moved swiftly... for a human.
She was nervous now, panting in anxiety and exertion. How could Kouga not have caught up with her by now? Was he merely playing with her? Would she reach the edge of the well only to be yanked back at the last second?
Breaking through the tree-line, Kagome looked at nothing but the goal before her. If she could manage to get to the well's edge before he caught up with her she could hide safely at home until Kouga calmed down. If she could manage to get over the edge before he reached her, Kagome could sit in her mother's kitchen with a cup of hot cocoa, laughing nervously for no apparent reason. If she reached the well...
Kagome was up and over the edge of the well faster than even a jewel-encrusted wolf-demon could hope for. Blue light wrapped around her like a blanket and welcomed her to the other side of time, keeping her safely out of the literal jaws of danger.
The trees remained calm, the clearing pristine...
For eight minutes.
All movement came to a stand-still as the wolf howled out his cry of defeat, the scent of the girl obviously long-since past his reach. And all because he couldn't shake one snot-nosed half-demon...
...who had latched onto his leg like a dead weight...
...with his teeth.
