A Conversation

Ax and Tobias walked into the barn.

I still do not understand this, Ax said to Tobias.

Tobias sighed.

"What? What going on?" Marco demanded.

It's Ax. He was wondering about something, Tobias said.

"Oh, great," Marco muttered. "What is it this time?"

We were watching a music video on TV. Ax was just thinking, Tobias said.

"Thinking what?"

Why does every human song have to be about emotions? Ax asked.

"That's what I've been wondering," Marco muttered.

Cassie turned to face Ax. "Well, love and emotions are powerful things to humans. We often do that because of what we feel."

Love is considered greater thing than honor is? Ax gasped. He sounded horrified.

"Well," I said, rubbing the back of my head. "Yeah. To us, anyway."

Prince Jake, Ax said. I worry at times about your species.

"Don't worry about us," Rachel said with a laugh.

No, I mean, why is love considered one of the greatest human emotions?

"Don't Andalites fall in love?" Cassie asked.

Well, Ax said. Yes, but I was wondering if we, humans and Andalites, experienced different ways of love.

"Huh?" Marco said, totally lost. And the truth is, so was I.

"Ax, are you saying that you're wondering whether human love is different from Andalite?" Cassie asked. Cassie is that kind of person. She can figure out things better than the rest of us.

Yes.

"Probably not," Cassie said.

We all stood for a moment. We were waiting for Erek. Marco told us that Erek told him that he would be late.

But why do humans do things like that?

"Like what?" Rachel asked.

Like, sing about things, Ax said. You're human songs sometimes hurt your ears.

Marco laughed. "Yeah, Britney Spears. She hurts just listening to her."

"Marco," Rachel said, giving Marco a small punch in the arm. "I thought you liked Britney Spears!"

"Her songs, no. Her, oh, yeah."

What is the different between her music and her? Is her music not a reflection of her?

"Whoa, Ax," Marco said. "That sounded so human I don't think you are an Andalite anymore."

Ax looked at Marco. I am an Andalite, He said sharply.

Marco flung his hands up. "You don't have to get all hostile."

Anyway. It was Tobias. Marco, what's this about you liking Britney Spears? Oh, just the other day, I believe you told Jake and I that you hated Mrs. Britney. You hated her looks, her body…

"Be quiet," Marco grumbled. "I was in a bad mood, okay? She is pretty hot though."

There is that expression again. Is her being hot mean why she wears less clothing than other humans?

"No," Marco said. "Hot means she's…well, neat. Pretty. Beautiful. Gorgeous."

"Would you ever go out with her?" I asked.

Go out with her? What is this human expression –if it is –mean?

"It means go on a date, you know, like go to a movie or something."

Ah.

Marco smiled. "To answer your question Jake, yes."

"Who would you like to go out with more, Christina or Britney?" Rachel asked.

"Britney. Sorry, Christina."

"Mandy Moore or Britney Spears?"

"Britney Spears."

"Jessica Simpson or Britney?"

"Britney."

"Jake or Britney Spears?" Rachel said with a laugh.

"I do not find that funny," I said.

"Britney. Sorry, Jake. I only go out with pretty females."

We all laughed, even I, who was kinda insulted.

I do not understand this. Jake is male, is he not?

"Last time we checked," Marco said.

"Marco," I said. "You're going a little overboard."

"Hi," said a new voice. We all looked up. There stood Erek.

"I am not," Marco said.

"What are you talking about?" Erek asked.

"Whether or not Marco will go out with Jake or Britney Spears."

Why humans take emotions too far.

"Do not," Marco said. "We weren't really discussing anything important."

We all laughed. We knew Marco didn't want to talk about it anymore.

Actually, neither did I.
