Acheron to Elysium

Float in on the river of woe

Beside the lost hopes and dreams,

The forgotten, the missing, the forsaken.

A doll with pigtails and only one eye,

A pocket watch whose hands are ever-still,

A half-finished tale of dragons.

Dock on the shore of gray sand.

Join the lines crying, shaking, groaning,

Waiting for judgment, waiting in fear.

At their head sits a massive canine.

His size matters not, but his three heads do.

Watch out for the teeth he bares;

Death may be beyond you,

But pain will never be.

Three faces of gold loom ahead,

Ready to decide the fate of all.

They deliberate with some, but,

For others, the answer is immediately known.

Some go left, some go right.

Neither is the way to go,

For straight ahead is paradise.

Wails of agony and terror echo left,

Moans and clattering echo right.

Both fields are filled with dread;

One full of searching and yearning,

The other of anguish and misery.

Walk among the few who go straight.

Pass the castle of gems and bones.

Don't dwell on the faces you see,

They are just lost souls

Screaming for a way out.

Ignore the glorious garden,

Cursed is all the lush inside.

Walk under the three slaves of Death.

Let their caws fall on deaf ears.

A few steps more and paradise arrives.

A journey complete, but another starts.

One amongst the living done,

Now begin one with the deceased.

Welcome to the land of the dead.

A/N: This doesn't really pertain to Percy Jackson and the Olympians or The Heroes of Olympus directly, but I used some ideas and basis from both of those works. I'm not normally one to write poetry, so I have no clue if this is good or not. I'm proud, but that's mainly because I'm happy I even managed to finish a poem. Haha. But, as always, feedback is welcomed with open arms. Oh and, by the way, it won't let me break stanzas apart, so I'll tell you where they end. The first ends after the line about the dragon tale, the second ends after "but pain will never be", the third ends after "for straight ahead is paradise", the fourth ends after walk straight, the fifth ends after "cursed is all the lush inside", and the sixth ends at the end. Thanks for reading!
