Her eyes bore into mine as I lay at her feet, the blood slowly draining from my body. I gasp, trying to form words, yet none will come. She steps from her chamber slowly, her eyes never leaving mine. They were accusing me.
You lied to me, they seemed to say.
An endless ocean of blue, her eyes...I feel myself drowning in them as I desperately reach out towards her. Blood erupts from my mouth in a fountain, and I feel the tears running down my face. I have failed her. I promised her I would meet her here on the eve of her glorious awakening, awaiting her orders...
And instead, I'm desecrating this sacred altar with filth and tears.
She steps closer, and I feel the tide rushing over me, yanking me from her angelic presence. I cry out to her wordlessly, and in response, she takes my hand. I try to recoil, fearful of tainting her porcelain skin, but she holds me fast and lifts me so I rest in her lap.
"Alexia...you're finally awake."
The words are hard upon my throat, and I feel the ocean curling around me. Her eyes soften as she looks down upon me, the waves calming from their previous fury. Her azure gaze is comforting now instead of damning, and I smile weakly as she runs her hands through my hair.
"You've done well, brother," she whispers, her voice sounding miles away. "You have saved our family's name and ensured my succession. Now sleep, dear Alfred...I shall do the rest."
The waves once more tug at me insistently, and I weakly try and fight it. The blue in her eyes seem to hypnotize me, and I feel my breathing begin to slow, my heart's beat along with it. I reach up to touch her face one last time before allowing the tide to take me.
The last sight I have is of her azure eyes, glazed with sorrow and the last sound is of her beginning to sing our precious lullaby.
