Pie
Ed Elric
G
No spoilers, just a much younger Ed.
The pie sat on the windowsill, it's warm, fruity scent wafting lazily up into the air and dissipating as it merged with the billions of molecules of air that surrounded the tall house on the hill.
He could only see the metal bottom of the pie plate, and the tiny bit of golden brown crust that teetered on the edge of the tin, threatening to break off and let gravity toss it mercilessly to the ground.
The young boy jumped up, his short, chubby fingers stretched at high to the heavens as he could get them.
"So close." He mumbled, his finger coming tantalizingly close to the bottom of the plate, but not quite enough to touch it.
"Rrr! Just a little more!" He stood on his tiptoes and stretched as high as he could, concentration etched in tiny lines on the young boy's forehead, his tongue lolling out of the side of his mouth as he strained ever upwards, trying to touch the forbidden.
"Ed, you better not be trying to get that pie!" His mother called from the kitchen.
"I'm not, ma!" the young blonde headed boy yelled back, immediately going back to his normal stance and running out towards the yard, where he had left his younger brother doing some busy work in the garden."
"How does she do that?" He wondered as his younger, darker haired brother came into view. "Well, it won't matter soon. I will be taller, and before she even knows I am there it will be gone! I can't wait!"
