Escape:

A Short oneshot.

Hogan and Carter were perched under the bridge. Carter was putting up all the bombs and Hogan was setting the timers.

"I'm all set!" Carter said nearly falling off from his perch.

Hogan grabbed his collar and pulled him up. "Careful." Hogan set the last timer. "Alright, I set them all. Let's go." He let go of Carter's collar and the two stepped down from their perches and proceeded carefully out from under the bridge.

They had made it up the hill and past the guards when an explosion went off behind them. They turned to see a wall of fire and smoke before them.

Hogan grabbed Carter and yanked him into the darkness and bushes to hide.

"Colonel, what happened?" Carter asked wide eyed.

Hogan winced. "I don't think I set one of the timers correctly."

Carter said nothing and looked back to the debris that used to be a bridge. They watched from the darkness as soldiers ran by them toward the fire. Shouts in German filled the air. "We can't stay here long…" Carter said looking around.

Hogan nodded. "You're right, come on, let's escape through these woods here.

Carter got to his knees and grabbed Hogan by the arm. He hauled Hogan to his feet and the two ran through the forest back home.

They were careful where they ran, no doubt there would be German soldiers heading over to the remains of the bridge.

Hogan ran behind Carter the whole way. 'I can't believe I messed up so badly. Carter could have been killed and it would have been all my fault.'

The reached the tree stump easily enough Carter went down first, then Hogan. When they got to the bottom of the ladder Hogan turned to his teammate. "Carter,"

Carter turned slightly. "Yeah?"

"I'm sorry."

Carter seemed shocked. He turned all the way around to face Hogan. "Colonel?"

"It was my fault the bombs went off early, you could have been killed. I-"

"Colonel, I wasn't and it was an easy mistake, what matters is that no we weren't hurt AND it was a successful mission. We're in the clear." A smile spread across Carter's face as he spoke.

Hogan looked at Carter a little surprised the smiled. He was a good man. "thanks."

Carter smiled harder and the two walked back to their barracks to report a mission accomplished.

A quick oneshot, I thought would be interesting.
