Reverie
He feels her presence from the driveway. Her joy, her energy, her caring nature, her love. Somehow it radiates through, even from a distance. But usually he keeps the distance as small as possible. No need for taking chances even if they are in fact… different… forever.
He still remembers how he felt before her. The confusion, the guilt, the hunger for... he couldn't really define what exactly he wanted. All of his mindless wandering through a solitary desert. A journey filled with darkness all the way to a quiet diner in Philadelphia. He never realised how cold he felt until he met her.
A smile takes over his features and creeps up to his eyes when he thinks back to that day. Her delicate frame and that cheeky smile when she started talking to him. The way she broke through the carefully constructed reserved and detached façade and filled him with warmth.
Just once sentence was enough for it all to crumble down and leave him utterly exposed yet never more at ease. Her extended hand as a symbol for a new start. How many times had he not hoped, wished, dreamed or begged for just that one chance.
He smiles again when her arms snaking around his waist call him out of his little reverie. He feels her leaning into his back and laying her cheek between his shoulder blades.
'Did you have a nice daydream?' she asks, and as he turns he sees a smirk playing on her lips.
'About me?'
He raises an eyebrow while looking down into those topaz eyes of the one he loves so dearly.
'Maybe,' he teases before enveloping her in his arms and pulling her closer. His eyes however speak truthfully. Always.
