Pondering on Love

Disclaimer: I do not own "Slayers" or "Jekyll and Hyde" so don't sue me.

This came upon me in a blast of creative energy. Not necessarily good but I have to get rid of the idea before I start prolonging the agony. Forgive me if this sucks, it's my first Slayers fic and I'm not necessarily a fan of the show. I only wrote this based on other fics. Enjoy if you can. :D

Zelgadis stared quietly at the stars on that moonlit night. The sky seemed adorned with more twinkling lights tonight more than any other and he wondered why. A gentle breeze blew through his hair and he breathed it in with sigh. He had too much time on his hands.

People said that it was good to have nothing to do every now and then but he didn't share the sentiment. Aside from the fact that he was extremely bored, having this much time only made his mind wander to thoughts that he would rather shove away. Not exactly unpleasant thoughts but unwanted thoughts nevertheless.

Nights like this made him think about a certain spunky, red-haired sorceress. Damn, he thought to himself, I'm getting all sentimental and mushy. Indeed, it wasn't like the chimera at all and it irked him to no end. But then, he couldn't help it. He simply could not resist thinking about Lina and how she made him feel. He never imagined caring for another being this way and wished that it was not so but certain emotions could not be repressed. Not even by a powerful being like him.

He glanced at his hand, taking note of the unusual colour of his skin. He knew that he was different and for the longest time didn't care. But thinking about someone and secretly yearning for that someone to care about him too, he wondered if that was even possible. How could it be since he looked like this? Could anyone love someone like him? Could he even hope that that person could be someone like her? He tore his gaze from the sky and looked at the ground in slight despair, and then walked away from the wood.

A few minutes later he found himself by the edge of a small lake. The moon's pale luminescence reflected itself on the silvery surface of the water and as he looked, he saw himself as well. A reflection of his face. The blue scales, the strange complexion. And his thoughts returned to Lina, this time with a note of sadness and wonder. He seemed to see her reflection as well. The smug grin, the fiery hair and personality, that beautiful face. She could be such an idiot sometimes but he couldn't care less. Lina was Lina.

And he pondered:

I peer through windows,
Watch life go by,
Dream of tomorrow,
And wonder "why"?

The past is holding me,
Keeping life at bay,
I wander lost in yesterday,
Wanting to fly -
But scared to try.

But if someone like you
Found someone like me,
Then suddenly
Nothing would ever be the same!

My heart would take wing,
And I'd feel so alive -
If someone like you
Found me!

So many secrets
I've longed to share!
All I have needed
Is someone there,

To help me see a world
I've never seen before -
A love to open every door,
To set me free,
So I can soar!

If someone like you
Found someone like me,
Then suddenly
Nothing would ever be the same!

There'd be a new way to live,
A new life to love,
If someone like you
Found me!

Oh, if someone like you
Found someone like me,
Then suddenly
Nothing would ever be the same!

My heart would take wing,
And I'd feel so alive -
If someone like you
Loved me...
Loved me...
Loved me!...

A small smile appeared on his face. I am getting sentimental, he thought. It's so uncharacteristic of me. But then for that brief moment, he felt his heart leap within him.

There was this tiny smidgen of hope, wasn't there?

Perhaps. We'll just have to wait and see.

And he turned his gaze once more to the glowing orb in the sky, drinking in the moonlight.
