Author's Note: At long last, my hiatus from the site has come to an end. Not going to go into the details and excuses, but let's just say I finally got a new computer.
Alright, this is actually a challenge that Mzr90 gave to me. It's open to other people as well and was inspired by Fearful Symmetry by Act 3. Here's the gist...
Naruto/Highschool DxD: Life in a small town was supposed to be simple and boring. Naruto's opinion on the matter changed drastically the day he witnessed his super pervert of a classmate get murdered by a black winged dominatrix. Apparently, devils, angels, and gods aren't just the stuff of stories. As if that wasn't enough, he finds out his father is the Norse god of thunder.
Requirements are as followed:
1. Naruto as the son of Thor has some of his abilities but beyond that his growth in abilities as well as whether you want him to wield legendary weapons is up to you as long as he is realistic in growth.
2. Rossweisse is recommended in the pairing but not required. A harem is allowed but not required.
3. Kushina's fate whether she is alive or dead and her role in DxD is up to you.
One thing you will quickly find is that the summary doesn't properly describe my version of the challenge. I took some liberties and followed the spirit of the summary and not so much the letter of it. The requirements are followed, though, and I've discussed my plans extensively with Mzr90, who has basically acted as my creative consultant/soundboard for the last 6 years.
Also, this story will feature some AU elements, a harem, and adult content, so be warned. The harem itself will consist of Asia Argento, Rossweisse, and Kuroka. No others are planned but who knows what may happen. Without further adieu, let's get started, shall we.
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto or High School DxD. Please support the official release.
Chapter One
It rained the night Uzumaki Naruto was murdered.
It was the feel of the rain against his face that woke him up. Compared to the soreness from where he had been impaled and the pool of his blood he was currently resting in, the rain was relaxing.
With a jolt, he sat up, recent events flashing before his eyes like a movie reel.
Yesterday, a girl from another school, one Amano Yūma, had asked him out on a date. While disbelieving that such an attractive girl would want to date him, he had said yes with no hesitation.
The date had gone quite well up until its ending. Through dinner and a trip to the arcade, she seemed to be having a good time. And then they reached the park near sunset.
Her words echoed in his head.
"Will you die for me? The short time I spent with you was fun. Like playing house with a child." Her voice had lost the light, innocent tone and grown deeper… more mature. Furthermore, a pair of black feathered wings had appeared from her back and she was literally flying a few feet above the ground. "Sorry, but you were a threat. That power of yours… if it ever awakened, we would be in trouble. If you want to blame anyone, blame God for giving it to you."
A spear made of light had been hurled at him faster than he could react. Its impact hit him softly, as those he was gently shoved backwards. But the sharp pains in his stomach and back told another story. That spear had impaled him. Touching it had caused it to disappear and blood to pour from the wounds.
The last sound he had heard before he lost consciousness was the sound of Yūma walking away.
Gingerly touching the hole in the front of his shirt where the spear of light had pierced him Naruto found that he did not have a wound or scar where it hit him, though the blood soaked shirt left him with no doubt that his date had ended with Yūma trying to murder him.
"How in the hell am I still alive?" He did not make an effort to keep his voice low. Not like anyone would've been hanging around the park in the rain anyways. The rain had already washed a good deal of the blood away, but surely the human body could not survive if it lost as much blood as what still clung to his clothes and what was pooled beneath him. And yet, Naruto did not bear so much as as a scratch and he felt better than ever. There was still a tenderness to his stomach where the spear had hit him, but even so, he felt like he could run a dozen miles and not even be winded.
Shaking his head, Naruto rose to his feet and began to walk away from what should have been a crime scene. He would figure out what was going on later. For now, he needed to get home. Hopefully the blood would be completely washed out of his clothes by the time Naruto got home. Explaining why he was so late was going to be hard enough without also explaining why he was in such a state.
Fortunately for Naruto, the house was abandoned when he got there.
It was not that unusual for his mother to get called away, though she usually left a note when she had to go into work in the middle of the night. Even so, he was not going to waste this. Just in case she showed up soon, Naruto quickly made his way to his bedroom and undressed so he could change into some dry clothes.
Just as he finishing stripped the soaking clothes off, he heard the sound of knocking at the front door. Changing into a pair of shorts and tank top, he headed to the front door to see who it was.
Opening it, he saw a face that he was truly not expecting.
"Aunt Tia?"
"Are you going to invite me in?" A hint of amusement could be heard in the woman's voice.
Quickly doing so, Naruto stepped to the side and his mother's best friend stepped through the front door. As always, the woman embodied the color blue. Everything from her hair and eyes to her clothes were in varying shades of blue.
"What brings you here, Aunt Tia?" Naruto asked as he closed the door, a genuine smile gracing his features.
"Kushina asked me to keep an eyes on you while she pays a visit to an old acquaintance of hers. I'm sure she will tell you more when she returns," she answered.
That was unexpected, but Naruto did not ask any further questions on the matter.
"You okay, hatchling?" she asked suddenly, a look of concern showing on her face. "You don't seem as excitable as normal."
"Eh, I had a date. Didn't go well," Naruto admitted. With her, he had long since learned that half truths worked far better than outright lies.
"If you say so," she replied with a hint of a frown. "Now, why don't you go into that kitchen of yours and fix me something to eat while I call Kushina and let her know I'm here." She withdrew a blue phone as she spoke.
Glad for the reprieve, Naruto made his way to do just as she asked.
He did manage to hear Tia say one thing into the phone before he reached the kitchen. "Looks like you were right. It happened."
Something about those words both sparked his curiosity and filled him with dread. One thing was for certain though. His life was about to change in ways he could not even comprehend.
Sleep did not come too easily for Naruto. Visions of his death at the hands of his date plagued his dreams, leading him to wake up every other hour. After the third time, he just stayed up.
"Aunt Tia must still be sleeping." A sigh of relief escaped his lips. He loved the woman nearly as much as his mom, but ever since he heard her talking on that phone, the thought of having to have a conversation with her left him uneasy.
After chowing down on a cup of ramen for breakfast, Naruto left the house and made his way to school. Normally, the walk to Kuō Academy took about twenty minutes. Today, however, it took less than half that. Chalking that one up to the near boundless energy he seemed to have, Naruto went through the open gates.
Just a year before he enrolled at the school, it had been an all-girls school. As a result of the somewhat recent change, only thirty percent of his class was made up of guys. Supposedly, the first years were forty percent made up of guys and the third years were only twenty percent made up of guys.
Despite the high ratio of girls to boys, Naruto had been mostly single since enrolling at the school. Outside of his occasional interactions with girls at mixers, Amano Yūma was the first girl to express interest in him. Though, his mother liked to insist that he was just a moron and only realized a girl was into him if they confessed it.
Looking around, Naruto noticed something. There were a few people walking around the campus, but someone was missing. There were three classmates of his that he did not think he had ever seen separate. Matsuda and Motohama were there, but Hyōdō was missing.
Before he could think too much on the matter, a familiar student stopped in front of Naruto.
"Good morning." Standing before him was one of the few students of Kuō Academy that Naruto considered a friend. Kiba Yūto was, in many ways, everything that Naruto was not. He was what many guys called a pretty boy. His popularity with girls certainly did not make him many friends among her fellow male classmates, though that did not, in any way, stop Naruto from making the effort to befriend him in their first year at Kuō.
"Morning Yūto, how's it going?" Naruto greeted in turn. Normally, his greeting would have been accompanied by a yawn, but he was full of energy today.
"It's going somewhere," Yūto chuckled, but his eyes did not reflect any hint of bemusement. "Just not sure where yet."
Naruto shot him a look at that, making his friend grimace.
"I need you to come with me. The president of my club needs to have a word with you."
If it had been anyone other than Yūto, there was no doubt in Naruto's mind that he would have ignored the request. He did not deal with school clubs of any kind. But when a friend asked him to do something, Naruto was not the type to back down.
"Alright," Naruto agreed, a strained smile on his face. "Lead the way."
Much to Naruto's surprise, it turned out that that Yūto was a member of the Occult Research Club. Until that moment, he had never even heard that such a club existed or that any club operated out of the old school building that had been seemingly abandoned when the school opened up to boys.
The moment that his friend brought him to the club room, Naruto knew that something was off about the club. Rias Gremory, Himejima Akeno, Tōjō Koneko, and Kiba Yūto were apparently all in the club. They were among the most popular students in the entire school. There was little to no chance that a club with those four in it would be unknown. As if that was not enough, something about the four seemed different now that he stood before him. It was hard for him to explain, but just from a glance there was something that just seemed off about them in comparison to the rest of the students he had seen that morning.
"You must be Uzumaki Naruto," Rias greeted with a benign smile. "Please, take a seat." At this, she gestured to the sofa in the room where Koneko was currently sitting.
With a jerky nod, Naruto took the seat next to her, all too aware of the near emotionless eyes of the white haired first year.
"I had not expected you to arrive this early in the day, but there is enough time to have this discussion before school," Rias continued, her smile growing a little brighter when she looked at
Yūto. Before she said anything further, she retrieved a manilla folder from the only desk in the room. "There have been a few suspicious individuals in Kuō recently. Can you tell me if you've seen any of them?"
She passed the folder to him, and when Naruto opened it, he dropped the folder. The first picture in the folder was none other than Amano Yūma.
"I assume you know the woman in that photo?" Rias asked, concern clear in her voice.
"Yeah, you could say that," Naruto replied, his voice almost hollow as he stared at the picture. "We went on a date yesterday. She tried to kill me afterwards." He could hear more than one gasp at the revelation.
"I'm sorry." Rias actually sounded remorseful. "If I had known what she intended, I would have acted sooner."
At that, Naruto looked at her, confusion etched upon his features. "What are you talking about?"
It was with a pained look that Rias explained the situation, and suddenly things began to make sense in a weird way.
Apparently, Amano Yūma was a fallen angel, a member of one of the Three Biblical Factions. Rias Gremory and her club mates were devils, members of one of the other two factions. They were technically enemies, and it would have been acceptable to have acted the moment they set foot in Kuō. Rias, however, had chosen to merely observe them so as to not cause further conflict between their factions unnecessarily.
Perhaps he should have been upset with the redhead for her inaction, but it was difficult to feel such an emotion when all he could think on was the news about fallen angels and devils. To learn they were not creatures of myth but real and living among humans was a shock, to say the least. Perhaps the biggest shock was that his closest friend was one of them.
"I know this is a lot to take in, but everything I've told you is true," Rias told him after her explanation concluded. "Until I can locate the fallen angels, I'd ask that you stay away from isolated areas. If they tried to kill you and failed, then they will certainly try again, but not even the fallen angels would risk doing it with witnesses around."
Naruto nodded in understanding, still dazed from the information overload. But something she said did get through to him a moment later. "Did you say fallen angels? As in more than one?"
Rias reached down and picked up the folder he had dropped earlier before passing it back to him. "Inside, you will find pictures of three other fallen angels. I would recommend you look at them carefully, just in case you come across them."
Doing as she suggested, he reopened the folder. Along with Amano Yūma, there was a woman who looked to be in her twenties or thirties, a girl who appeared to be in her teens, and a man.
"But if you don't mind me asking… how exactly did they fail?" Rias seemed acutely aware of just how uncomfortable of a question it was, but there was a longing in her eyes, like she just had to know.
"I'm not sure," he admittedly quietly, a stark contrast to his normal behavior. "I saw this spear of light appear in her hand and she must've thrown it at me. Last thing I heard before I passed out was her saying I was a threat and to blame God for giving me some power."
"A Sacred Gear?" Akeno mused softly, perhaps softly enough that she did not expect him to hear it.
Rias did not answer her friend, merely looking at Naruto carefully. "Please, feel free to come to us if you worry for your safety. I'm sure Yūto would not mind accompanying you to and from school if need be until we resolve the situation."
At hearing that, Yūto nodded in confirmation, a look of concern upon his face.
"Thanks, I'll keep that in mind," Naruto told them as he slowly rose to his feet and handed the folder back to Rias. "But for now, I need to get to class. It's almost that time."
The offer was appreciated, but Naruto would have been lying if he claimed to trust the four devils. Even Yūto did not have his complete trust in that moment. They were clearly hiding something from him. Not that he was innocent in that regard, he conceded as he stepped out of the building. After all, he neglected to mention that he was impaled and made a full recovery an hour later.
Feeling a vibration come from his pocket, Naruto took his phone out and saw a message from his mother. It was short but straight to the point. Be good for Tia. I won't be back for a week at least.
After sending a short reply, Naruto put his phone up and reluctantly made his way to class. While physically, he felt energetic, everything that had happened in the last twenty-four hours had taken a toll on him, mentally speaking.
The members of the Occult Research Club remained in their positions after Naruto left.
"I'm surprised you didn't ask him to join your peerage," Akeno remarked, glancing at her King.
"I don't exactly have an argument to make it sound remotely favorable," Rias confessed after a moment of silence. "What was I going to say? I'm going to handle the fallen angels regardless, so offering him protection from them in exchange for his allegiance isn't an option, and frankly, I know too little about him to come up with any other ideas. Uzumaki Naruto is not someone that I ever considered as a possible servant."
At that, Yūto decided to offer his opinion. "Honestly, Naruto doesn't like talking about anything too serious even with me, and we've been friends for a year. What I do know about him suggests that recruitment isn't an option though. Naruto doesn't follow directions very well, and he's too stubborn to do things the easy way. Even if it was a matter of life and death, I see him refusing."
That information made Rias sigh, but she did not look overly disappointed. "We know the fallen were observing three students in particular. Of those, one was apparently attacked, one is missing, and Sona will be meeting with the last one after school. We can't afford to let them do as they wish anymore. If only I had acted sooner…."
"Any idea how you'll find them?" Yūto asked.
"We know where they are," Akeno admitted, earning a surprised look from Yūto and Koneko, though the latter would've been next to impossible to recognize for someone not familiar with her. "Attacking an abandoned church head on is quite risky though."
"Correct," Rias agreed. "We will wait for them to leave the church before we act. Our familiars will keep an eye out for them. We can't risk walking into a trap. No one else will suffer at the hands of those four though."
One of the last things she wanted was for someone to die in her territory. While in theory she could also reincarnate someone as a devil if it happened, that was not how she wanted to ever increase her peerage.
Besides, one need look no further than the missing Hyōdō Issei to realize why letting the fallen kill a possibly Sacred Gear user was not beneficial to devils.
