(Been reading a lot of stories with Zigzag as the main love interest. But I wanted to make one of the family/comfort with him as the main focus. Thus, enter the sister. Hope you all enjoy.)
Stanley Yelnats glanced over at the two blonds staring blankly at the TV's static. There wasn't anything resembling a picture but still, they sat mesmerized and ignored all the noise around them.
"Hey, X..."
X-ray looked up from the game of pool and asked, "What's up, Caveman?"
Hearing his nickname almost made him smile, the feeling of acceptance rushing over him. "Who's that with Zigzag?" he asked.
Without even moving his eyes to look at the two on the couch, he replied, "That's Iz. She works in the kitchen until Zig's done with his hole. Surprised ya never seen her in the tent..."
Caveman choked softly in shock. In their tent? Wasn't that against the rules? She had to be the only girl in camp besides for the Warden and she slept in a tent with 8 delinquent boys?
As if hearing his unspoken questions, X-ray waved it off. "Relax, dawg. Nobody goes after Iz. That's like asking Zigzag to come after you and find a nice hole to bury the body."
"So... they're together? Like 'together'?"
That got every eavesdropper laughing. Zig, who had Iz in his lap, turned his head to glare at them. "Shut up. Ally McBeal is on..." He turned back to watch the static.
But the girl is his lap was still looking their way. Her wavy blond hair went every way but up and fell down her back like a cloak. Her electric blue eyes were framed by dark thick eyelashes and she wore the same orange suit with a black tank top, the suit's arms tied around her waist.
Now Stanley could see the family resemblance. "Stupid question..." They were obviously siblings and with a brother as crazy as Zigzag, it was no wonder he seemed even antsier when digging holes. All this time, he blamed it on the sun and his acute paranoia. Guess he couldn't say that anymore...
Coming back into reality, Caveman noticed that Iz was now right in front of him, staring at him with those deep blue eyes. He took a step back in surprise. "Uh... hi?"
She kept staring before opening her mouth. And she softly sang the lyrics that Madam Zeroni had told his ancestor so many years ago. Stanley gave a start, putting his hands on her shoulders to inquire where she'd heard that song.
However, Zigzag was there at that very moment, gripping the new kid's wrist tightly. "Let her go, Caveman..." His tone was soft and menacing, the promise of a broken arm hanging between them.
Before Stanley could release her, Iz replied to his unasked question. "The voices told me to sing that song to you..." Then she put a hand on Zig's wrist. "It's okay, brother... but I need to get some sleep."
Zigzag looked over at his sister and nodded. But he refused to release Stanley's wrist until his hands were off of Iz's shoulders. Then he escorted his sister out of the Wreck Tent.
Armpit shook his head. "Weird dude... he has ta have his sis in his cot or he freaks out. Don't get it but at least there ain't weird noises at night."
That received a bunch of grumbles at how wrong that sounded, a few guys punching his arms or smacking the back of his head. But it did get Caveman wondering... what exactly was their relationship?
(This is kind of like the prologue. For the family/comfort stuff, review for me! Lemme know you want to know!)
