Author Notes: Thanks to Sarah for beta. Drabble.
She sees the trail of blood long before she sees him.
Crimson, pooling, congealing in the tropical heat. Her eyes are slow and lazy, unwilling to focus on him. She knew. She knew, she knew, she knew: a mantra running, beating in her mind, matching the beat of her feet as she rushes forward. Her heart focussed on what her eyes can't.
The world moves in a blur.
She sees Sayid out of the corner of her eye, lifting Him off the cold ground, out of the cold puddle. Cold like her. She screams at the man to leave him - he's not dead. She can save him, she can! She knows it's a lie before it's left her ashen lips.
He saved her.
She kneels beside his still body, and tries to wipe away the blood that stains his face. She only smears it. Her chest heaves as the first few tears begin to fall. She's not good at goodbyes. She's told him this once before, and curses him for making her be the one to say goodbye.
Her tears mix with his blood, and she sees the beauty in this.
Raindrops touching a blood-red rose. Each drop falls onto the fragile petals, breaking them from the stem.
Nature's last goodbye.
