"Garth! Get your ass in here!"
Garth Harper looked up from his computer, frowning, then stood and walked towards his husband's voice and the distraught wailing of their child. He quickly found the other man, hunched over and barely conscious, in their daughter's room.
"Kimi won't go to sleep." Roy Harper stood near a crib, bouncing a crying 5-month-old, tired to the point that the only thing keeping him awake was the thought of his child's unhappiness, as well as the non-stop sobs that made sleep nearly impossible even under the worst circumstances.
Garth smiled slightly, took the girl, and began to rock her, "Did you try a lullaby?"
Roy blinked at him then arched an eyebrow and crossed his arms, "I don't sing. If I did, it would probably scare her more."
The infant's cry was the only sounds for a few seconds, as Garth tried to tactfully phrase his next question, to keep Roy from going into a sleep deprivation inspired mood swing, "Okay, so how did you plan on calming her down?"
"Well…I've been trying to make her laugh."
"She's a baby." The Atlantean scolded his husband gently as he continued to rock Kimi, "You can't make a baby laugh itself to sleep. It needs attention, and security."
"How do you know this?" Roy scowled, his gaze softening as he glanced at the child. The redhead may have been a hard-ass most of the time, but his little girl was a definite weak spot in his defenses, no matter how annoying she was being at the moment.
Garth smirked slightly, amused but smart enough not to show it, "Haven't you ever baby-sat?"
"No. Karen won't even let me look at Jeremy, let alone watch him for her." Roy sighed and leaned against the wall, crossing his arms, eyes never leaving his husband and child, "I don't think I'm cut out for this job."
"Don't think of it as a job. Think of it as an amazing learning experience. Besides, we knew what this would be like when we asked Karen." He gazed at his distraught husband, and then grinned, "Well, I did at least."
Roy scowled at him jokingly, "Why didn't you warn me?"
"Shh…the baby is sleeping." Garth avoided the question with a playful smile and laid Kimi in her crib. The archer walked up beside him slowly, wary about waking her up again, and gazed at their child, who finally slept peacefully, not noticing the strand of dark red hair that had fallen in front of her face. He pushed it back, thought for a second, then smiled tiredly at Garth.
"It's tiring, it's smelly, and it's annoying sometimes, but…this jo- I mean, learning experience is worth it, isn't it?"
Garth wrapped an arm around his waist and hugged him, "It's worth it all right. It's more then worth it."
