Title: Behind the Champion
Disclaimer: I do not own pokemon.
His champion's name was plastered around the world; kept alive by rumors and stories. His legacy burns as his achievements were talked about across the Kanto and Johto region. Everyone remembered the end. No one remembered the beginning.
"Would you like to play a game of chess?"
The queen takes out another pawn as she flies across the chessboard. Everything falls to her power.
Yet another nameless trainer falls in a battle. Their name will now be forgotten to history. Their fate was to make his champion stronger than before.
The queen swiftly demolishes a knight and begins her rampage. She is no longer content with pawns.
Gym leaders fall under Red's skillful orders. They are mere trophies to collect and placed on away on the side of board. They are only to be looked at to be reminded of his strength.
The queen faces her equal.
Red fights Green for the title of champion. They are equal in power, but in battle there must always be a victor.
The queen fell the king in one swoop.
His name shall be recorded in the hall of fame. He is the champion of the region.
It is nothing but a calculated game.
Red was his queen. His champion.
The queen of course is the strongest piece in chess. She fights beautifully and destroys everything placed on the board. She is the one to be remembered for her battles. However, even she is under another's command. The player's command. No matter how strong she was; she cannot move unless the player moves her. He is the one who gave her his power and made her his champion. She cannot move without his permission.
Professor Samuel Oak smiles as he pulls his opponent into a check.
"Shall we start over again?"
He remembers the gold eyes of a boy whom he had met in Johto. The boy interested him. He had seen the same power in the red eyes of his former champion. Now it was time to set that boy off on his journey. His former champion had locked himself away on a mountain. It was time to start anew.
He places his old queen on the opposite side of the board and starts anew on the other side. Of course no champion could last forever. He moves his new queen, his new warrior, across the board. This one is pristine and clear. She is unriddled with the scars of the last queen. She is his new champion and he was the god who crowned her. Professor Oak moves his queen to destroy a pawn and the cycle starts again.
Author's Note: Not sure how this turned out because it is my first pokemon fanfic. Not sure where this weird idea came from. I think it was because it is Professor Oak who introduces you to the pokemon world in both the first and second generation. Anyways review if you enjoyed this.
