Author's Note: Dang, I'm really getting bad about these short fics. x.x Sorry about that, everyone. I promise a decent update on Game Over and Ad Interim pretty soon. As I've mentioned in another story, I recently started an experimental piece that has grown and grown and taken over my life. xP I am determined to finish it before I post it on here, though, so it'll be a while before you guys see it. It has an OC in it, but I think you'll all really like it. Oh, and as a sidenote: I went to A-Kon 19 in Dallas this past weekend! How cool was it? Cooler than your face. Oh yeah. They even had a Death Note photoshoot! Took tons of pictures, especially of the Matt's and Mello's. Someone even dressed up as Beyond Birthday! I could've kissed that person; I'm totally going as Beyond next year. Personally, I cosplayed as Natsuo from Loveless and Suigintou from Rozen Maiden. I was surprised at how many Death Note cosplayers there were! I had a great time talking to most of them, and the whole experience rocked face. But I ramble now. Onward!
Disclaimer: I do not own Death Note. Know why? Because I'd subtly mention throughout the manga series that people who cosplay as Matt and Mello together completely rock face, and Near cosplayers should be kicked in the head. xP Even though most of the Near cosplayers from A-Kon 19 were really good. Also, this fic is based off How Far We've Come by Matchbox 20. I don't own the band, lyrics, song, or any of that stuff.
Warning: Mello swears. Duh. We knew that already. Otherwise, this fic is quite clean.
"Hey Mel?"
"What is it?"
"What would you do if today was the last day of the world?"
The blonde paused, brow furrowed in confusion.
"Matt, where the hell did that come from?"
"I've been listening to this song lately, and it talks about the end of the world. So I was wondering what you'd do if today was the last day ever."
"You and your music..." Mello sighed, running his fingers through his golden locks. "I don't know what I'd do, honestly. I've never thought about it."
"Really?"
"Yeah. It's not something I become too concerned with. I doubt if I'll be alive when the world ends. Hell, I barely know if I'll be alive tomorrow or the next day."
"You're right," Matt agreed solemnly. "But just suppose...suppose today was the end of the world. What would you do?"
"Well..." Mello sighed. "I guess I'd start by freaking out. Who wouldn't? But after a few minutes of that, I suppose I'd try and make my final day the best day ever."
"What would you do?"
"Shit, Matt, I don't know. I guess I'd go driving with you. But the roads would probably be full of people, so I'd probably pull off into a parking lot. And just joke around for a while. Call people up and tell them goodbye. Make amends with people I've wronged. Laugh and joke with the guys I've never paid much attention to. Then I'd turn the volume of my speakers as loud as possible, and I'd blast all my favorite songs from the stereo. We'd leave all the doors open and dance in the parking lot together."
"What songs would we listen to?"
"Probably the fun ones. Hard, fast, heavy, with a good beat. Rammstein, or Matchbox 20. I'd toss a few makeout songs in there, too. And since it's the last day on earth, we might as well play a few songs to fuck to. And we would smoke a joint together, lay around in the sun, and wait for the end. We'd stay together, in each others arms. Because why the hell not? I wouldn't want to die without you beside me."
"We'd just lie down on the car's hood and listen to music? And just hold each other and laugh?"
"Pretty much."
"...I like your idea better than mine."
"What was your idea, Matty?"
"...I'd rob Taco Bell and let all the animals out of the zoo."
"...We could do that, too."
