Maka's heart pounded in her ears as the cold air of winter time in Death City filled her lungs; stinging and forcing her to cough with every foot she ran. Her legs were close to just dropping her where she stood and the absent streets made her think for a second about turning back, but she emotionalt slapped herself and speed up. The dark, mysterious alley ways blurred and faded as she remembered why she was running.

Soul.

His soul was getting weaker and weaker by the second. The only other time she had felt his normally bright and confident soul become even a fraction of this darkness was when Crona had slashed him. That memory still chilled her to the bone, even to this day years later. But even the. It hadn't been like this. Not even close. In the back of her mind, the smallest part of her wanted to trust that since Soul was Death's Wepon, he could take care of himself. That's the way he would have wanted it, but this didn't feel right. Not at all. It was a cold feeling and she knew that he needed her.

Up until this point Maka had refrained from letting the ever-present tears in her eyes fall as she thought of loosing the one person she loved; but in a moment of weakness and in strength she let them fall as she fell to her knees in pain. It was gone. The presence, the joy, the laughter, all the memories they could have had, died along with Soul's life.

She just laid on the street, had started to fall quietly around her as she realized that she was going to have to do it alone. She clutched her stomach and whispered in between gasps and cries, "You'll never forget your fathers legacy, I'll never let you forget him. You'll know what it was like for him to go from the very bottom to the top and to work hard. I'll never forget him either, he cared about you and I so much he wanted to take on the witch alone. He never wanted either of us to get hurt and knew that he would die trying. I know he wasn't trying to hurt me, but I will always have a wound that's forever bleeding."

December 7th, 2012. More than one soul left the Earth that day as a young mother lost her one true companion, but found a new one with the courage to live on. The End.
