She watched him, sleeping, his breaths slow and regular. Pale morning light filtered through the window, transforming the room into a washed out gold. His eyelashes cast delicate shadows onto his cheeks, and his messy black hair stood in all directions. He looked so calm, like the sea after the storm. Exuding from him was a peace, a surety that made her feel safe. Protected.

She leaned closer, her blonde hair tickling his face. Marveling how, after all these years, his face still made her heart beat faster, she ran her fingers down his face and neck, stopping at his shoulders. Her lips grazed the tip of his nose before they pressed lightly against his mouth.

He took a while to wake up, murmuring a little, turning restlessly. Soon, though, his eyes blinked open, the sleepy green orbs that she knew so well. A smile spread slowly across his features, and he reached over to tuck a blonde curl behind her ear. "Hey."

"Morning, Seaweed Brain." She was silent for a moment, savoring his closeness. "You're up."

"What time is it?"

"Sunrise."
